Quick Hair Fix, apply styling moose to damp hair, and gently scruch locks while blow drying this should provide the messy look that you are looking for, almost all scruch products work the same, with this product price does not matter.

literally- dirty hair is better to be messy.
the products will help you.

I love to wash my hair, gell it and twist it up with rags and tie them off and go to bed. very southern-old school
I blow dry it in the morning- rags still in it and dry each as I un wrap it. then shake it all out, spray the "crap"out of it and blowdry and finger pull out the kinky parts.

My hair was long and bone straight as well. It is fine, soft and hates to be curled.
Its now- short and sassy- thanks to a bad highlight job last Spring.

Good luck- its cheap, easy and you can really funk it out.

You can try styling it with gel. (I suggest Herbal Essence brand; you can go on their website and find the gel right for you.)

Or you could try washing it at night and sleeping, then see how it turns up in the morning.

Try using a little mousse in your hair and scrunch it while you blow dry it
