I've read about it and I cannot find a solid reason that differentiates the two.

anorexia is where you strave yourself
bulimia is where you throw up everything that you eat.

The two most common types of eating disorders are anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, more commonly known as anorexia and bulimia. The two disorders can be difficult to distinguish from each other because they have similar characteristics: With both anorexia and bulimia, the person will have a distorted image of his or her body. That person will seem to be obsessed with what he or she eats.

They are similar in that the sufferer has unrealistic ideas about body weight and thinks that they are obese when they have a healthy weight. But people with anorexia do not eat at all, and some symptoms include having brittle hair and nails and VERY cold hands. Bulimics "binge and purge" by eating huge amounts of food and then throwing up or taking excessive amounts of laxatives to eliminate the calories. They tend to have bad breath, tooth decay and sores in their mouths because of the overexposure of their mouths and throats to stomach acid.

Anorectics (yes, it's anorectics) avoid food and lose dangerous amounts of weight. Bulimics eat followed by self-induced vomiting (binge and purge) and are of normal weight to overweight. What they have in common is that they are both eating disorders and can involve control issues and self-esteem. It's the way these concerns manifest that differ.

Yes, as everyone has said, anorexics avoid eating any more than they must, and often times work out to burn off the calories they did eat.
Bulimics eat large meals [binge] and then purge it, either by throwing up, use of laxatives and diuretics, and excessive exercise.

note that often these disorders are intertwined.

Also with anorexia a person will take all sorts of laxatives to make them get rid of it all....when they do eat they prefer soft foods as to get rid of it fast.
