These terms have different accepted meanings.
Realism: Movement with social connotations that tries to portray reality with all its defects and beauty. Form of presenting the things such as they are. Aesthetic system that assigns as end to the literary or artistic works the staunch imitation of the nature.
The basic characteristics Realism are:
- Elimination of all subjective aspect, fantastic facts or feelings that are removed from what is real.
- Rigorous analysis of the reality. The writer offers us a rigorous portrait of what observes.
- The problems of the human existence, compose the fundamental topic of the realistic schools; that is the consequence of the supreme interest by the description of the character, temperament and conduct of the personages.
- Emerge a form of work where charachters and the customs are analyzed minutely .
- The artist accuses and portarys the defects and wrongs that affect society and offers solutions to stop them.
Naturalism: movement concentrated more on the study of form and portrayal of natural settings and sense.
- Portrait a moment of existence as faithfully as possible.
- Philosophical system that attributes all the things to nature as first principle.
- Determinist in character and experimental in the method.
Naturalism emerges as a consecuence of the Realism, and its objective to explain the behaviors of the human being.
- The Naturalist intends to "interpret" life through the description of the social environment and discover the laws that govern the human conduct.
- The naturalist represents charachters in extreme situations and marginación, describe the lowest and sordid environments in order to put to the overdraft the scars in the society.
- The description of these environments was interesting in the measure that was permitting to observe how influences an adverse condition affect the human being life.

Realism and Naturalism are both responses to Romanticism . They are very similar ideals . The main difference is Realists put more emphasis on the individual. Naturalist did not think it was the individuals place to initiate change.

Realism tends to see the dark side of things, while Naturalism tries for neutrality. Romanticism is the hot, yet tender sister of kitsch. And fantasy forgets it all, and flies out of orbit.....
