This may be a stupid question, but I'm not sure of how to do it. Should I get up work out then eat breakfast, or eat breakfast then go work out?

Thanks for your responses!

Work out first. Your body will be forced to use your fat for energy, instead of the food you just ate. You'll also be less susceptible to cramps.

Your body utilizes almost all of your blood when you work out, and roughly a quarter of your blood when you are digesting. Thus, the expression "do not eat 30 minutes before swimming" was born, as cramps can onset. Consuming a small amount of cafffeine prior to work has been known to increase the effectiveness of a workout by about 10%, but try to keep any substantial amounts of digestion until after you work out. The best thing to do is to eat something afterwards that contains some easily digestable protein, such as a healthy cereal or breakfast bar. This vital period after a workout increases the ability for protein to be added to the muscles, thus aiding the healing process and making it less likely for soreness (in addition to appropriate stretching).

It depends on what you prefer.

Working our first thing on the morning will burn fat stores, but if you don't have much energy that early, working out without eating can be detrimental to your health. A good idea is to eat a banana before your morning workout, this will give you a short energy boost.

Also, keep in mind that if you have a big meal and then work out, you will not be losing optimal fat and calories because your body will be working hard already to digest the meal you have just eaten. Wait 1 hour if you have eaten a snack and 2 if you have eaten a large meal.

both. Eat a little snack before you go that is rich in sugar and carbs so you can get a boost from your fast state (sleeping) Then eat something larger when you get home. If you eat a large meal, then work out, you will feel sick. On the other token, if you work out after not eating for like 10 hrs, you will get headaches, and feel sick as well.

I'm not sure which is best for you, but I've tried both. What you do if you workout too soon after you eat, you might get an upset stomach or a little nauseous. I always feel like if I have a workout first, my meal is my reward!

I think this mainly depends on the person, because it could be different for people, but I could never work out before I ate, I need the energy. I dont think there is a right or wrong way just a way that best works for you.

Why do Americans eat

Either is fine.

What you need to keep in mind is that you need to wait at least 30 minutes after eating before doing your work out.

Work out first in the morning. That way you can get it over with and not feel lazy after eating.

eat light before the workout. after the workout eat something high in protein, that is when the body absorbs it the fastest, especially in the first 30 minutes
