My dog does the same thing. You dont have to go out and buy, any fancy collars. Just, whenever they start to crazy with barking, hold their muzzle together gently but firmly and say quiet, in a firm voice. It should do the trick.

1.Take the dog to the Vet and discuss the problem and ask for help.
2. Take dog to a good dog obedience training school.
3. Work with the animal in intensive training. Say "no" when he barks at the inapropriate times.
4. Perhaps an anti bark collar will help.
5. Check with other dog owners and ask about their experiences with their animals.
Good luck to both of you.

Depends what the “nothing” is.
My dog appears to bark at nothing. When you take a closer look she’s barking at birds, people in the park next door, spiders (yes, my dog is afraid of big spiders…) strong wind she doesn’t like, because she’s bored, or because she’s been hiding and no ones noticed and she wants attention…
Have a bit of a look around when you’re dogs barking to see if there actually is something he/she’s barking at.
Keep your dog entertained. You’re lucky if your dog only barks when it’s bored, most of them dig or chew.
Once you’ve figured out what the dog is barking at, it’s a lot easy to stop.

I had to get my dog a bark collar. It shocks her every time she barks. She would bark if the neighbors dropped a pin. She now know that when the collar goes on she cant bark. As soon as its off she barks like crazy again.

The only dog I have ever known which barked at nothing was having a bad reaction to a vet-prescribed drug.
Dogs bark at things we cannot see/hear/sense sometimes.
If you mean the dog barks at something you consider unimportant, then you need to teach him it is unimportant. How you do this depends on what the "nothing" is.
More info. is needed.

Some dogs just do that, and you can buy an anti-bark colar that gives them a little shock... at first they are just stunned, and depressed, then they get the idea that it only comes when they bark.... they get over it, rather quickly... you can get one on any of those dog sites -- Drsfosterandsmith.com, I think.

put him on a long leash and everytime he barks, pull it, and make a sound. When he finally stops barking for a while, reward him by petting him or giving him a treat. Don't even recognize him or look at him when he barks.
