First of all, stay away from those protein drinks. They really aren't good for you.
Weight loss and weight gain is really a simple equation, yet most people make it complicated for themselves.
The average woman needs to consume about 1200 calories to maintain a healthy weight. If you want to gain weight, eat more calories in a day. Try boosting your diet up to 1500 calories.
The easiest (and healthiest) way to do this is through complex carbohydrates. Also, make sure you eat a hearty breakfast every day, with protein, carbs, and "good" sugars from fruit and fruit juice.
You'll need to count calories at the beginning, and try to figure out what elements of your diet you could replace with equally healthy, but higher-calorie, alternatives. For instance, if you eat yogourt, is it the fat-free kind? What about switching to 2% milk from non-fat?
Make small changes. Weight gain should be gradual, same as weight loss.

The best way to gain weight ive ever seen or used (cheap too!) is peanut butter. Peanut butter has a huge amount of protien and a huge amount of calories in it. AND TASTES GREAT! I got this tip from my football coach a long while back when i couldnt gain weight for football (i was muscular, but very light for my positions). Works great. Just grab a spoon and a good movie and eat away. Adding chocolate chips turns it into a reeses cup. seriously.

How to gain Wieght and Stay Fit
Weight Gain Tip #1: Eat, Eat, Eat
Eating is the first and most important factor that is needed for proper weight gain. It's simple - you need to eat more calories than you burn. This does not mean eating anything and everything that is not nailed down. Carefully plan your meals with foods that will help you gain lean mass, not fat. I suggest 6 meals. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and three other small meals scheduled throughout the day. The goal is to eat every 2.5 to 3 hours.
Focus on foods such as steak, chicken, fruit, milk, vegetables, cheese and assorted types of nuts. It's recommended to eat 4 - 6 pieces of fresh fruit a day, and at least four tall glasses of milk. Milk is a great, cheap protein source - take advantage of it. A sample snack meal would be a glass of milk, an apple, and a hand full of peanuts.
Take time to lay out a meal plan. What you eat is the most important ingredient in a successful weight gain program.
Weight Gain Tip #2: Lifting
As stated, proper eating is of utmost importance when attempting to gain weight, but if you do not lift weights, all that gained weight will be fat - not muscle.
When trying to gain weight, I suggest working out three times a week. You need to lift hard and then recover for the next workout. Focus on the big exercises such as squats, deadlifts, bent-over rows, chin-ups, bench press, & military press. These are the exercises that will turn those extra calories into muscle. You are not going to gain much by doing lateral raises and step-ups every workout. You need the multiple-joint lifts that will shock your system and stimulate your body into growth. Focus on getting strong by adding a small amount of weight each workout. If you focus on strength, size will follow. Case in point, look around at your local gym - the strongest guys are also the biggest.
If your training routine is working, then stick with it. If you're not getting the results you need check out Bob Myhal's Ultimate Muscle Mass Training Program. It is, quite simply, the best muscle-gaining program around. It rocks!
Weight Gain Tip #3: Supplements?
To gain weight, you do not NEED supplements, but they will help you gain the weight quicker. That's what they are, supplements to an already good diet and training program. Think of supplements as the finishing touch.
I suggest only two supplements for those wishing to gain weight. The first being N-Large 2. The way N-Large 2 will help is by giving you a large quantity of calories in one small serving. These will provide you with at least 600 calories in one easy shake and are especially great for students who do not have time for breakfast, or snacks in between classes. Just mix one of these shakes with water or fruit juice and gulp it down in a just a couple of minutes. It's easy to mix, contains 620 calories per serving, and is very cost effective.
The second product is basic creatine monohydrate. Most people gain 5 - 7lbs in the first two weeks of creatine use. If you are interested in quick weight gain, and increased energy for your workouts, creatine is definitely worth a go. American Creatine is a good choice if you're not sure of which product to choose.
How Much Will I Gain?
First, I feel I must cite the obligatory disclaimer of "everyone's body responds in different ways, so it varies". That said, if you do eat well, lift hard and use your supplements properly, you can expect to gain about 10-15lbs within a month.

You can still be healthy and gain weight. Don't think of crappy food as fat gainers. Protien, in bulk amounts can add on weight, but remember do it at a healthy rate. Around a pound a week in healthy. You can still work out, but lift weights, do more weight and less reps. This will build muscle. I would defintely raise your protien intake, and possibly dairy. Still eat healthy though, because that is SO important! Good luuckk. Need anymore advice, email me, I loove my nutrition =]]

Probably this is an area that you should talk to your physician about. He can do a body fat measurement and he will probably suggest that you exercise a few more times then three times a week and ways to alter your diet to achieve reasonable goals. Eating more carbs is usually one way to gain weight but when you do, you want it to end up in the right places!

Antony Elles has a program where I gained over 50 pounds of muscle not fat . Look him up on-line.
I was only 115 lbs. and almost 6'0 ft. Skinny huh, I looked like a handsome white Jimmy Walker. I not only gained weight but am almost 6'2 ft. now. Weight training does not stunt growth like some believe but studies show opposite. Just in-case you wanted to know.

Your best bet is to exercise more. Carb up a little and work out with weights as developed muscles weight more than undeveloped muscles. You need to do an extra 3 hours a week of weight training.

I have the same problem. In my case, I am drinking protein drinks and meat and stuff to gain muscle mass. For you I could recommend eating lots of pasta. Spagetti and pasta things... Carbohydrates could easily decrease your fast metabolism and provides energy for exercise.

i'd propose eating verify between nutrients. that is nutritious and grant you with supplementations that you want. I went by ability of an celebration of homesickness once the position I thoroughly lost my urge for nutrients and that i drank verify to get my necessary foodstuff. i'd imagine powerbars or an similar bar that folk use to carbo-load or get ability would help also.
