you are required to sign up for selective services. its for the draft in case it becomes in effect again. you get in when you turn 18.

Even though the draft is no longer used in the military. When you turn 18 you are required to sign up with Selective Services. You should receive information in the mail on this and a card to fill out and send in.

This does not mean that you "accidently" joined the military.

ME thinks you read the card wrong. It more than likely said you are due to sign up. So get to the post office and fill out the card. It wouldn't kill you to fill out the card in the post office that way you're sure you are covered. I have never heard of the selective service act being done automatically.

If you got a driver's license or social security card, you probably signed up for Selective Service.

Relax, its not like you get a choice or anything. Besides that is only for a draft, and we havent had one of them in over 20 years

You are required to sign up, they might have nabbed you with your driver's license. I personally did it online, it's quite easy and only takes 30 seconds.
