I am really thinking I want to get one, but I am nervous about the hospital staff messing up and just numbing my leg or half my body. (Hospital has only been doing epidurals for two years)

Epidurals have been a way to relieve the pain of child birth for many years. I had my first in 1974 and another in 1977. I had no side effects at all. Some experience headaches for a short while. Sometimes an Epidural will not work for a particular individual, but your doctor will test the effectiveness and give you time to make up your mind if you are feeling any pain. You might feel pressure, but probably no pain.

I was terrified of this procedure and through all my labours I never had one.
Just recently I had to have a procedure done and because I was pregnant they didn't recommend antithetic so epidural was the only option.
The staff were so amazing and it was so quick and numbed EVERYTHING below my waist.
This alone scarred me but wasn't like I expected it.
It started to wear off really quickly (depends on how much they need to use) but I'd defiantly use it again if I had to.
I'm now a fan.

I didn't have a baby, but I got an epidural for a surgical procedure. I was supposed to be "cleaned out" prior but I didn't do a very good job. As soon as the epidural kicked in, my bowels relaxed and out everything came. It was quite a dignified moment. The doctors said at least he knew the epidural was working.

You will be just fine. basically you will be in too much pain to even know you are getting an epidural. Don't worry too much about it. Even if they have been doing it for two years they know what they are doing. It isn't that bad having a kid naturaly though. I just got the epidural to numb them giving me stitches. My first was eight pounds eleven and my second nine pounds three ounces. Needed stitches both times.

Those are a real blessing! I had one when I gave birth to my son. You still "feel" but no pain. Just don't try to get up till the next day, or several hours later-you will be numb, and don't need to try woalking-you won't. Do yourself a favor, don't even ask to look at the needle! The doctor knows what/how to do it. Take care.
