it is possible. we have been work ing with the pricibles of fusion and enegy generation which we believe will solve our energy needs. but you solution is more viable, solar powered car and solar mirror is already in use. but technological cost special interest will work at hard at keeping us from it.

Yes. Primarily because the earth bombards the Earth with so much solar radiation that is ten reflected. There is the perfect oppurtunity to take advantage of this 'waste'. Oceans and the land only absorb about 10% of this; plants use only 2% of the sunlight they receive.
With time and more R&D, it is conceivable that we can and will have to. And to the person that referred to a "miniSun", I don't know what they are talking about. Currently, there are a small handful of projects at universities where students and scientists have been trying to develop practicle methods at harnessing the same source of energy that the sun uses. This nuclear fusion uses the bombardment of Hydrogen atoms to create Helium atoms (and alot of energy). Still, however prospects remain doubtful. Currently, it takes just as much energy to create the suitable context in which fusion can occur, as fusion puts out.

I think you heard it a little wrong - the sun puts out more energy in a second that humans have ever used. The only reason we aren't getting most of our energy from it already is that the big energy companies are making too much profit from current energy sources, especially oil, and pay politicians to keep the status quo.

If you watched the science channel instead of the national geographic channel, you will know that people are starting to figure out how to make a miniature "star" on earth, which will produce 10x more energy that it consumes.

we are now at a cross road. Solar technology is improving every year. One day; yes but how soon , who knows.
there is company up North that a battery for the Electric Car (EV1) that would 300 miles on charge. they make a photocell film so thin that you can place it on your roofs shingles and don't notice them at all once their on. Satellites and the I.S.S. uses solar power. Its just a question of time.

Since oil, gas, and coal were created by decaying organic matter, and that organic matter was created using the sun's evergy, you could argue that even those sources of energy are "solar."

Maybe in the future, but that will have to first mean getting rid of all fossil fuel dependence, which is highly unlikely in the our lifetime.
