My 19 month ol has been throwing up for 7 days straight now. The worst day was the forst, then he skipped a day, starting doing it again, then skipped another day, etc...etc... I took him to the doctor's after he threw up on the morning of the fifth day and they said what I figured they'd day "it's going around". He threw up once more that day, twice the next day, not at all the next day, then tonight, he threw up again. I want to call his pediatrician but they are probably going to tell me the same thing they told me Friday. I caught this same bug from him and was out a day from work during all of this, but only threw up one day. I am really scared that something else might be wrong with him. Has anyone heard of a stomach flu lasting this long? Should I look around for a second opinion?

Myself, I try not to be the "panicked parent". Unfortunately. most parents are so it seems that doctors take their calls with a grain of salt. Make sure you get him fluids, but when you call the doctor next, exaturate it. They won't see you or send you to an ER unless they hear something over-the-top.
Realize that most moms are very panicky and exaturate the symptoms. If you are very realistic, the doctors may not pay attention to you. This is horrible, but I can't blame them...they get a lot of calls from ladies that heard their kids just sneeze in the middle of the night. If you truely feel that this needs attention, REQUIRE a hospital/doctor visit...make a "stink"....rather be safe than sorry.
EDITED: didn't remember how young or how long this child has been sick...even if the flu isn't the issue, this child coulc be very dehydrated...hospital for sure. Not to scare you about the flu, but because of dehydration.

My children have had this with only diahreah instead. It started with vomiting (that has been on an off, but the diahreah is constant), but has been diahreah for 13 days now. My dr. tested the youngest sample in a diaper and it came back rotovirus. They told me to push fluids. You can try pedialite. My dr. said as long as they look good and are not dehydrated, there is nothing they can do but let it run its course. Rotovirus has been known to last 3 weeks in some.
Foods to try:
1. Peidalite or gatorade (No carbonated beverages- the bubbles can make it worse) (No fruit juices)
2. Rice
3. Bananas
4. Applesauce
5. Toast
6. Yogurt (No other dairy except this. Dairy will make it much worse. The bacteria in the yogurt actually helps the body eliminate the virus (or something like that).
Good Luck. I would look up rotovirus on the internet. You may also ask the dr. if you can take a sample of the vomit in to have it tested. (I know it sounds gross, but it might give you piece of mind).
I will definately stress though, no dairy. It really makes it bad. We tried some after 2 days of no diahreah and the 4 yr old was on the potty all night. We are now waiting until Friday to try again.
Good Luck.

two of my kids were out for a week just a little while ago, so I don't think it is necessarily something to overly freak out about. If he is not getting dehydrated and is only vomiting a little bit once in a while I would wait a few more days (at day 10), then if he is still doing it, go back to the docs and don't leave til you get an answer that you are happy with. It does sound exactly like what my son did. wasn't sick everyday, just kept his fever....good luck to you!

My daughter is going through the same thing, I took her to the doctor and he said she has a stomach virus in which there is no medication for. He didnt say how long it would take to go away but ur son should be okay just give him plenty of pedialyte. If u take him to the hospital they are going to say the same thing. They always tell u what u already know. Good luck...

I would check with his doctor. In the meantime, change his toothbrush, wash his bedding, spray Lysol all around the bathroom and on his mattress and pillow. Make sure he is getting plenty of fluidl. Also, make sure he is eating a bland diet. You may be reintroducing the virus and you may be giving him food that his stomach is not ready to handle after being sick.

If the pediatrician isn't helping you, try taking him to a pediatric allergist. I had the same problem with my son and they kept telling me that he was just active and that was making him throw up. When I too him to the allergist, he tested him and found out that he's sensitive to a few foods that were making him puke.

I'm not being an alarmist....but I would take my child to the emergency room because children his age can become dehydrated very fast and that can be dangerous.
Call his pediatrician now and let him know what's going on....if he seems unconcerned get to the emergency room.
It's better to be safe than sorry.

Call your doctor. That is what he is there for. Seven days is much to long for this to be going on. Make sure he is drinking plenty of liquid and pedialite.

unless he keeps coming in contact with the same virus, germs. there is a Drug that Dr.s can prescribe to help keep his stomach calm, it may knock him out but, its not harmful my dr. gave it to me when i was pregnant with my son and had trouble keeping food down..its called..promethazine..thats generic for phenagren..might want to change his sheets and wipe all his toys off with some Clorox wipes to help kill off germs..if that don't help, bug his Dr. to death until they figure out whats going on..good luck. p.s. there someone on here that has 2 kids that have been diagnosed with something called "rotovirus' says it lasts for 2 weeks and sounds like what u r going through..look for someone named "chemrose" i think its something like that

This is no stomach flue, throwing up causes permanent damage to the throat and a case lasting longer than a week definately merrits emergency room care, go to a hospital now, not a regular doctor.
