the ones who are tired of the superficial and want something more (most likely they're a little older and and experienced) will look for someone like that..and what you are is what you attract so if you have more to offer than you will attract someone who wants that :)

The outside appearance of a woman is not the only thing guys care about... but often, it is the only thing they know about for certain, and for that reason, it does often have a lot to do with actually getting a date.
How unfair? Well, your report cards and IQ scores don't get tattoed on your forehead, and for some reason, even when people are describing friends, they rarely talk about intelligence and values. You can change that a little, but it'll take a lot of time and effort to make this change very much.
Don't worry though, the girls that spend a lot of time on their physical appearances usually just get used for the night by us chauvinist jerks. The ones that can carry an actual conversation tend to get treated better.

here's the thing, if you are slightly less attractive than a barbie doll, but you are of above average intelligence AND you have a wonderful personality, the short term outlook for your love life could be termed as bleak. Guys are ruled by irrational hormones, they like their women to be stunning, and preferably not to bright, 'cause then it makes them look smart. Hang in there though, because while these jerks are all off chasing bimbos, they are all going to have a good share of heartaches and divorces. You on the other hand, have implied that you aren't handicapped by extreme feminine beauty nor are you the brainless twit that attracts boys. When a man is attracted to you, it will be because all your qualities put together make you perfect in his eyes.

The answer to your question lies in a problem in your question--you said "only". It's not ONLY what they like.
Granted, a guy IS going to look at and be attracted to a good looking gal. Human nature. YOU do it, too. If you particularly like cats, for example, more than dogs, the cat is the first thing YOU are going to look at when you walk into an animal shelter.
But, even if guys are going to first look at good looking girls, it doesn't mean they aren't going to notice other qualities in YOU that are likeable. Did you know that a good sense of humor is attractive?? Did you know that a sensitive and kind spirit may be attractive? Being clean is attractive. Having a hearty laugh is attractive. And intelligence--that may be challenging for an insecure guy. But for one who IS secure, even that is going to be attractive!
They are looking. You just have to wait for them to look past the good looking girls. :) They will!

appearances account for a lot. i'd have to admit, the first thing that attracts me is a girl's looks. now looks carry significant insight into a girl's personality.
for example, if a girl takes the time to take care of herself. mind you not being obsessive about slapping on makeup, because that's more like a horror story.
intelligence and confidence shows through and one can see it in the looks.
so when i say looks, it's a combo of aesthetics, personality traits, intelligence, and habits.

The same question could be asked for why girls only go for guys outside appearances...it goes both ways...
people tend to go for looks first - its the harsh reality and then after that comes the personality bit

You have been mislead. An intelligent man certainly wouldn't tolerate being with an ignorant. If she is intelligent, he will see the inner glow and the exterior won't matter all that much to him.
