Many people believe/hope that the rapture will happen in their lifetime, because it takes the focus off of their own mortality. Most people don't want to contemplate their own mortality, it gives one hope, or a "loop hole," if you will, to get to the afterlife without dying. There is something scary for most people about the idea of death.

It's a misunderstood concept. The catching away of the Church "Pre-Tribulation" teaching is only 150 or so years old. Not even based on scripture. However, we do understand that the "Church" will be caught up into the air with Jesus Christ, after those that are already dead raise from the graves. There are two main reasons that people believe this event will take place in "our lifetime".
1) We all want to go to a better place than we find here on this decaying earth.
2) Scriptural prophecy points to this event happening relatively soon. Some say as early as 10 years from now.
I refuse to point to specific dates, myself. But I've watched the world news reveal the completion of many prophecies, in my lifetime, and am watching others approach fulfillment soon. Jesus said that certain events would take place during the lifespan of an individual. The primary event was the re-birth of Israel. That happened in May 1948. If the lifespan of a man is 70 average, this points to something wondeful happening in my lifetime.
Hope to see you in the air.

The "Rapture" is a myth. It is not part of any real Christianity but was promoted as part of the Dispensationalism invented by John Nelson Darby only in the 1820s. All the apocalyptic predictions of the writers of the New Testament were addressed to the people of their time and intended to describe what would take place in their lifetimes. Christianity existed for 1800 years without this silly modern novelty, Dispensationalism theory.
Dispensationalism perceives history as carved up into segments, with the Rapture towards the end, after which there is the Tribulation and finally Christ returns and establishes his glorious kingdom here on earth, blah blah blah. But the Bible passages used by the Dispensationalists are abused when they are cited to supposedly refer to our time ignoring the fact that just as they say of themselves, they were written to address people of their time.
Everybody should read the Bible but read it critically with an inquiring mind. Dumb fundies treat the Bible not as a book to be read and inquired into but as a talisman, a magic object with supernatural powers, the mind-set of primitive ignorant people. They cling to it like a baby grasping his "security blanket".

i'm a christian, yet do no longer have self belief interior the so noted as rapture. it isn't biblical. we are living interior the era of the fig tree, the purely appropriate generations in accordance to prophecy. i do not understand of any information you ask for. I disagree with camping out because he has no idea of at the same time as the Lord returns. If he turned right into a biblical student as he can provide himself to be, he will be training that the anti christ comes first, in which he does no longer, and that is biblical, previously the real Messiah returns. i do not placed any faith in guy, yet income this interior the Lord. It is going to instruct how actually human beings will be deceived through believing a 'guy' over God's note. all of us understand the season, we do exactly no longer understand the precise time.

The bible talks a lot about the rapture. Especially in Revelations, it is talked about 'Jesus returning to claim his church'. Now much of faith is, well, faith. If you do not believe in the rapture, that is your choice. If you do, great. All of us will find out in the end whether it exists or not. Personally, I believe in it. People can twist scripture to mean whatever they want it too. All I know is that I believe the rapture is coming. I do not know if it will be in my lifetime or in my grandkids lifetime or maybe their grandkids. The bible says: 'I will come like a thief in the night,' and 'Be ye always ready for the coming again of the Lord'. Based on that, I believe Jesus will come again to claim His believers. And NO ONE, no matter who they are, has the knowledge nor the right to predict its coming.

No rapture !
Gospel According to Saint Matthew
Chapter 6
33 Seek ye therefore first the kingdom of God, and his justice, and all these things shall be added unto you.
34 Be not therefore solicitous for tomorrow; for the morrow will be solicitous for itself. Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof.
The origins of the doctrine of the rapture are hotly debated. The Orthodox, mainline Protestant, and Roman Catholic churches (which represent the majority of Christians worldwide) have no tradition of such a teaching and reject the doctrine, in part because they cannot find any reference to it among any of the early Church fathers and in part because they do not interpret the scriptures the way that Rapture-believers do.

Why do people believe the rapture will happen at all?
There's not a word of it in the Bible - it's an invention of XIXth century charismatic preachers and not much more spiritually evolved than the idea of Zeus tossing lightning bolts about.

People want it to happen so bad that they interpet events as signs. Or are willing to try to cause it if they could. But what I find ironic is that they seem to know 100 percent sure they are going to heaven. Will be awful for some who been waiting but get turned away. They need to just learn to enjoy life.
