the first one stands perfectly fine. i know this because its the only one i use and it has never failed me. as for the second, i wouldn't know since i have only read scattered parts of it, but it seems to be dependent on the first one since it quotes it so many times.

Well of course the Old Testament can stand without the New Testament and NO, the NT cannot stand without the Old Testament. In order for Christianity to be true, Judaism must be true.

The New Testament is the accomplishment of the Old Testament. A good knowledge of the Old Testament is helpful to a good understanding of the New Testament. However the New Testament can be sufficiently understood on its own to grasp its main message. I would recommend a person start by rfeading the New Testament through at least once, then read the whole Bible through, starting with the Old Testament.

The Old Testament can stand on its own, but the NT builds off the Old Testament and can't really stand by itself.

I'll be different and say no and no

They can be read sepperately however when the NT speaks about sin and sacrfice and redemption, we wouldnt know what that entailed without the OT.

The OT can be read alone also, however, it would leave one to wonder where God went.. all these promises that havent taken place in thousands of years and it leaves people to "fill in the blanks" themselves.

Yes, they can stand alone if need be, but they come as a package, kind of like the presents in a stocking.
