No, there is what is called, the "statute of limitations", which I beleive, I am not sure though, is somewhere around 7 years more or less. Although they cannot collect from you after that time period, if you were to request their service in the future, they could deny service based on past collectables.

have they been trying to collect the debt for the past 13 years? find out if its a collection account, if it is then its most likely that they've already 'charged it off'. that means they've sold the account to a collection agent and wrote it off as a loss on their taxes. you need to obtain a copy of your credit report and look for a collection account or a 'charge off' account from Verizon. a charge off account will take seven years to come off your credit report even if you pay it now. if the account is in collection and is open whether it is still with Verizon or a collection agency, you should try to pay it. hope this helps, good luck.

I would write a letter asking for proof of debt and state that my lawyer advised me to ask for proof because I don't have the bill in my posession and I need proof. Send it registered and keep a copy. Then put cc: Lawyer's name , at the bottom and keep a copy. They have sold the account to a collection agency? If not they may have the proof. Though they should drop it after 7 yrs. they don't always, they think something is better than nothing. So, turn it around and ask for proof. They may drop it. good luck.

It depends on the state you live in. The collector can try to receive the money until you pay it, but the debt cannot be re-aged and shown on your credit report after 7 years. There are different statutes of limitations by state so they are able to sue you for different lengths of time depending where you live. Please see the link below for your state's time length.
