All except Chihuahuas, they are descended from rats.

Technically they're all descended from the same common ancestor as the wolf family- don't forget, dogs were domesticated so long ago that wolves of that age weren't exactly the same as wolves are today. But they're not descended from foxes or coyotes or hyenas, if that's what you mean. It's definitely from the wolf lines.

And to the person who said wolves don't tame down after a few generations- early mankind started domesticating wild canines before there was HISTORY!!! THOUSANDS of years ago! Of course 3 generations of wild animals can't be tamed, it takes hundreds on generations of carefully chosen specimens.

That is a leading theory. Another theory is that all the canids are descended from the same ancestor that evolved into all the other subspecies. After all, dogs can interbreed with coyotes, jackals, dingoes, wild dogs and even foxes (but that is rare due to difference in habitats).

NO they are two entirely different things a bit like saying do all mice come from rats.
As some one else has said you breed them together just as you can breed Lions with Tigers but that doesn't mean that they are the same thing or even close relatives.

Dogs are Canines and Wolves are Canis Lupus. Dogs are not wolves.

They are entirely different species, but the dog and the wolf can interbreed.

The dog originated from coyotes, wolves, foxes and other pack oriented dogs.

Good luck!

Yes, all breeds originated from selectively breeding wolves.

I just don't think so. They are so domesticated and even several generations of wolves really don't seem to settle down that much. I'm guessing there was another factor in there somewhere. Perhaps there were dogs in the first place and wolfs were a different part of the family???
