Since this is in electronics, I'll try that one instead of the human contacts/connections above:

A contact is the physical end of an electrical signal. When two electrical contacts are in physical contact with each other, they form a connection between the two electrical signals. Often, the contacts are formed such that they will maintain the physical contact once the original connection is made (like with a plug and jack).

In the Mobile phone lingo, contact is the details of a person / entity you can establish a connection with. At the barest minimum, you need the identification details for reaching the contact (and make a connection). The identification details could be any of the following (not an exhaustive list)
1. Email Contact ( Email id of the person / entity)
2. Phone number
3. Name & Postal Address etc
A connection is a mode of getting in touch, it could be either through one of the following ways.
1. Email
2. Phone call
3. SMS
4. snail mail etc.

I'll try and answer this one without looking it up. A contact can be someone like an acquaintance- someone who you phone for information- like your bank balance; whereas, a connection can also be a contact but also someone who you have developed a relationship with- more like a friend or someone who you can rely on for more than just information but also advice and consultation on certain matters - like a lover!
