I only have a conditional licence right now so i know i wouldn't be able to drive in canada, but if my friend is driving, will they let me in? I'd like to visit montreal. I would also like to drive to alaska from the states. But I'd have to cross canada. I've heard that they won't even let me in at all. Just from one DWI. a first offense. If this is the case, will i have to do this before my court date next month? since I haven't been convicted, how can they not let me in? that's a little harsh in my opinion. I'm certainly not going to drive while i'm there so what's the problem? Last time I visited canada was several years ago and they didn't even check my ID. the border guard simply asked if I was a US citizen and i said yes and they let me through. I know that times have changed since then but I'm unclear of how much.

If there are charges against you, then you are under the same rules. You are not allowed in. Actually, with charges against you, are you allowed to leave the US?

It might be unfair. But don't blame us that your DUI laws are tougher than ours. I think it is because the average DUI equivalent in Canada typically has had several run-ins with the law, or they caused a fatal accident. In the US they slap the charge on you right away. It is that you are a US criminal that Canada cares about, or in your case charge with a crime, not that it happens to be a DWI. The US is no better. They Deny Canadians with a charge relating to possession of a joint, or a prostitution charge.

Yes Canadian Customs checks everyone's ID. Yes, you still MIGHT make it in. But they know their stuff and ask that question often - do you have a DUI? And answering untruthfully will get you barred worse. (Right now you have a chance of overcoming the inadmissibility fairly soon, as outlined in the link.) And they will get suspicious and check. Like someone else said, why drive all the way to the border only to get stuck there?

Here is a link to criminal inadmissibility FAQs and specifically on if you have pending charges.

you're concerned and scared about a 4th DWI, you do not have self belief the cops and the governemnt. it really is no longer the 0.5 of it. Jack field filed a civil lawsuit adversarial to you for all of your inheritance and your 4th toddler because you probably did not use THE force by ability of instead of creating your man or woman. you may likely be up for homicide prices as a results of deaths of 34 Jumbo Jacks.

No criminal record I don't see why they wouldn't let you in.........they wouldn't even know of your charges. Even with a conviction I don't think you'd have a problem. I don't know how they'd find out about it.
