I'm 21 and I've basically been dreaming about getting married ever since I was a little girl. Now I've had two proposals in under four months and I realize I'm scared. One guy I thought was a joke but the other guy is my current boyfriend and I love him with all my heart and I want to be with him but each time he says the word marriage I feel weird and I start to talk in this high pitched voice. I flat out panic. I feel okay making plans for a family and discussing financial issues and talking about how we'd raise our kids and the things we're gonna do together but the word marriage just freaks me out. Is this normal? I don't think it is but let me know what you think.

Because you are taking vows towards a huge commitment in life for better or worse........ Nowadays with such a huge divorce rate people are scared. Divorce is so not fun because of everyone that would be involved and the risk of too so much of what you both built........So In my opinion that is why some people may be scarred of marriage.

Considering that more than half of all marriages in the US end in divorce (and that doesn't even include all the ones that end in gun shots), I'm not surprised that you would be just a little bit hesitant to walk down the aisle.

people are afraid of comittment.
My hubby and I dated 4 years. lived together for 1. YOu have to be 100% sure that this person you plan to marry, is the one you can committ to. He has to be your best friend first.
I have been married 14 years. My hubby and I are renewing our wedding vows in MArch, and i would marry him over and over again. thats how much i love him.

Look all it is is that your probably not ready for that type of change...maybe the boyfriend and girlfriend thing is enough for you right now...
People are afraid to get married because they are afraid of a divorce. they dont want to get married to someone that says i love u lets get married and then wen push comes to shove say its over.

marriage is a life-long commitment, if you dont get scared, or even nervous, it'd be a bad sign. what your feeling is completely normal :)
