Well we are supposed to be tolerant, turning the other cheek IS tolorent. If someone steals our coat and we give them our shirt and shoes too, that is tolerance and we are supposed to be that way. Do we have to agree that everything is right? No we dont, and if someone doesnt welcome the message, we are to shake the dust off our feet and move on. Within our own faith however, is where we are supposed to be intolerant. When there are those who claim to be following Christ and not acting accordingly, that is when we should be intolerant.
1 Cor 5: 11But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat.
12What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13God will judge those outside. "Expel the wicked man from among you."
Look at Christs example, who was He hard on? Not normal every day people but those who knew the Law and didnt practice it. They were too busy pointing out the sins of everyone else and not looking at their own.
Christians, those of us who associate ourselves as those who follow Christ should not want to make that title look like a bad thing, in doing so, we make Christ look bad. I hate to coin a cliche but seriously, ask "what WOULD Jesus do" in every situation... try living the way He did and then you'll really see people differently.

It depends on what you mean by " be tolerant of everything"
A good Christian would say cat cat. (S)he always tries to tell the truth. Sometimes thruth hurts.
We are not supposed to "be tolerant of everything", just to make everybody happy, especially if it is against the teaching of Jesus and the Bible. I completely agree with impossible that we can't be ignorant and tolerate murder.

Christians are not supposed to be tolerant. We are told to hate sin and evil and there is nothing judgmental about that. We are not supposed to sit back and say ok do whatever you want, it doesn't matter to me. It does matter. I suppose we should tolerate rape, child pornography, murder. Get real. The tolerant attitude is ruining society.
May God Bless you.

Maybe because Christian means Christ-like. And Jesus hung out with all sorts of nefarious people. He didn't just try to teach the richest or smartest or most popular people of his time - he taught everyone who would listen.
The only time he really got mad was the story of the money-changers in God's temple. So I guess we don't have to tolerate the people trying to make money off of God.

Good question! We aren't supposed to be tolerant, but we should still love one another. Its very important not to get the two mixed up. The whole 'hate the sin, not the sinner' scenario.

Because Jesus' Gospel was ultimately LOVE. It is not our job to judge, God/Jesus will do the judging. We don't have to accept as our own personal beliefs things that others do that don't comply with our values/morals, but it is not our job to go about condeming people either. As a Christian, you may want to try - in a loving way - to speak with persons you know that may be living a life of sin and offer counsel. But every person has been given free will by the same God we worship. They have the right to exercise that free will. We have to do our best to live the most Christian based life we can. It goes back to do not attempt to remove the splinter from my eye before you remove the log from your own.

because people usually judge too quickly. and besides, no offense, but why don't people put 2 and 2 together?
the Bible gives alist of dos and don'ts, so why should they think Christians should tolerate everything?

Everyone has the right to differ, especially when it comes to religion. Do you know how good it is to be of one religion and have neighbors of all different beliefs, respecting each other?
If Christians are to live according to Christian teachings, they must start by learning to be more tolerant of others who have different beliefs or do not believe in anything.

We aren't supposed to be tolerant of sin; we ARE, however, supposed to love the individual.
