parvo, etc, and a dose of frontline for fleas. She is normally very healthy and spunky but about an hour ago she started looking weak and she yelps when I try to pick her up. I don't know if it is her joints or abdominal tenderness but she is very sore. Is this a typical reaction?

I'd call the vet and tell them what symptoms you're seeing. It's possible that they use a modified live virus, which can have side affects like that....though it sounds like she's having more than just a small reaction.

Babies get cranky and a little ill after a measles shot for the same reason, but you know... it can't hurt to just ask the vet. It may even be an allergic reaction to Frontline, or to the combination of Frontline and the shot.

Here's what I found online;

"16) What can I expect after my pet has been vaccinated?

Muscle soreness, lethargy, and mild fever persisting for a day or two are common reactions associated with vaccinations. Vaccine reactions beyond this are uncommon, but still possible. More severe reactions, such as facial swelling, hives, difficulty breathing, vomiting, and diarrhea, are a strong indication that special care should be taken in administering future vaccines. Since allergic reactions can become potentially worse with each subsequent episode, it is vital that pet owners consider these severe reactions a very serious condition. If you pet experiences any one of these severe reactions, you should call your veterinarian immediately and you will most likely be advised to bring in your pet immediately for evaluation and treatment."

I am working with a breeder in getting my new Standard Poodle puppy and I just reviewed all of the info they give us before we bring him home. They recommend that we NOT get rabies vaccination together with the other vaccinations and not more than 2 drugs at a time. I am not an expert but your little guy is probably overwhelmed by everything. If you got him from a breeder, call them if you have a good relationship..and contact the vet again ASAP.

I've found that one of the best tell-tell signs to whether or not your dog is sick is the color of their gums. Lift up your pups lips, if the gums are bright red/pink she's probably okay, if they are more of a pale pink/white I'd call the vet and keep a close eye on her. Good luck!

the medicines will drain her energy for a bit... she yelps because the injection site is probably very sore.... this will slowly go away,,,, keep ay or her moving and she won't be as stiff....... lift her gingerly for a few days.... she'll be back to normal in a day or two.

Be Blessed!

No, not typical. And if she begins to have swelling around the eyes and/or nose, it could be a reaction to the rabies shot.
