Why allow yourself to be comfortable with the extra weight? Why not lose it and boost your health instead?

I like this question because it made me think of something I learned through experience.

I used to be rather overweight, and was extremely uncomfortable with my body. Then I went on a bit of a crash diet (which has been more of an eating disorder recently) and lost about 20 lbs, enough to put me at a healthy weight. But, I'm still extremely uncomfortable with my body, overweight or healthy weight it doesn't matter. And I still want to lose, I still think I'm 'fat'. It's all in my head; and it's all in your head too. Satisfaction with your body doesn't start with changing your body, it starts with accepting yourself.

So you're actually asking a very good question in my eyes. You should be able to be comfortable just the way you are. Love yourself now, your body is not everything that you are...if you decide you want to lose weight that is up to you. but it's your body, and I don't think anyone (including yourself) should berate you for being something other than 'the ideal' or whatever it is you're 'supposed' to be. If you really want to change, you can. But if you don't, that's fine too.

Haha, but actually being able to give you advice on the 'how-to's' of loving your body, now that's a different story. I can't. I hate my body, I look in the mirror everyday and see an ugly stranger.
Maybe it would benefit you to take some self-esteem counseling, or get involved in some type of activity (meditation, yoga) that helps with peace of mind.

Don't worry about it! I'm overwieght too and so are many other people! The media tries to make everybody think that the whole universe is thin and perfect. That's totally not the case though! Everybody has faults that they don't like about themselves, but they've learned to live with it and so should you. Tell yourself that you accept yourself the way that you are and soon you will start to believe it. If you completely can't stand that you are overweight, then try to lose some. Do it safely, though! Try going out for a walk or go to the gym. I know excercise makes me feel so much better about myself! I hope any of this helps!! Hang in there, I know you'll learn to be comfortable with yourself!

I think the saddest thing that I've seen on here is all the people who have responded that aren't accepting of overweight people. Besides that, I would say a) ignore what people are going to say about your weight (except your doctor) and b) focus on being healthy instead of worrying what your scale says. I think that you need to focus on being comfortable with YOU instead of being comfortable with your weight. When you take care of yourself, your weight follows (as in you will be eating better and exercising naturally). If your weight really bothers you, don't just complain, look for a way to lose the weight in a healthy way. Talk to your doctor about what weight you should be at (so you don't lose too much) and get some friends to go walking with (or any other activity you enjoy). Exercising is about taking care of yourself, but it can be fun too. Good luck!

Just don't worry about it. Tell yourself that weight isn't important and you're happy the way you are. Todays society is too harsh about peoples weight. All the commercials about diet pills on TV, etc. That can make you feel a bit down, but just keep telling yourself weight isn't important and you're happy the way you are. If you keep telling yourself mo matter what you really think, you can actually brainwash yourself. Keep a positive attitude and don't worry about what other people think. =)

Edit: I've noticed people giving weight loss tips and saying wear baggy clothes and such. You need to be ok with yourself, and not hide the problem.

excercise 3 times a week for 30 minutes, eat a well balanced diet and find clothes that flatter your figure. Try to focus on your positive features so you won't obsess about your weight.

hey, no worries, just exercise it'll help, or some times, just don't buy tight clothes. wear looser clothes and exercixe a lot. you can be comfortable about it be not worrying about it alot but make sure everytime you're done eating, wait a while and then go jogging, or jump rope, or work out. try not to make people think about it and be yourself, it always helps.

If you are uncomfortable with it you will never be and you shouldn't be. Changing how you feel about yourself as far as weight can only do good. Mentally and Physically.

Try wearing loose fitting clothes so you don't bring attention to it.
