I would want the doctor who had the most experience in making successful diagnosis as the doctor for my child. If there wasn't any significant difference in that area then I would want a Christian doctor who could pray to God to give him wisdom to make the correct diagnosis.
As to your guess about an atheist holding the one life a child might have in higher regard than a Christian it's more likely that the atheist figures that since life doesn't have any real meaning and people are going to die anyway what's the big deal if a child dies and doesn't have to go through all the trials of life before it happens while a Christian would know that God places people on earth with a divine purpose and that he or she will have to stand before the judgment seat of Christ to give an account of what they did while alive.
2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.

I would want the smartest doctor. I'll take a smart Muslim doctor over an dumb Buddhist one any day. My youngest daughter spent over three months living in the ICU when she was a baby. In my experiences, I don't think you could be a very good doctor unless you viewed the life of each patient as very precious. Some would argue that their Christian faith makes them view life as even more precious. Either way, a belief or disbelief in an afterlife has no effect on the job of good doctors, and would therefore have no effect on which doctor I would want for my daughters.

I am a Christian, I don't go around asking people what the beleive. I don't check my groceries out and say, hey are you Atheist, because if you are I am going to another check out stand. I don't go to a place to get my hair cut and ask Hey are you Atheist and then say if you are I am going somewhere else. The same would be with a doctor. God made everyone as for as I am concerned. He made the Atheist. Who am I that I would judge him or her, I pray for the people around me, and whether the are Atheist or not, they have capable hands. They have taken a study to learn what they have done and they have a degree, I am not going to ask the doctor if he is Atheist and then refuse him my time if he is. That would not be a very Christian attitude.

That is just silly. A Christian realizes life is very precious - every bit as much as an atheist doctor. I've known Christian doctors and atheists - so its not a matter of bias in my answer.
A Christian doctor is not the equivalent to a primitive witchdoctor regardless of what backward ideas you have.
Most Christian doctors at the very most (if they ever) will say "God bless you" - or say, "Don't thank me, thank the Lord". But seldom have I ever seen a doctor start indoctrinating a patient - other than speaking to a patient he or she knows is a fellow Christian.
And I have yet to have an Atheist Doctor start telling me that God does not exist and start indoctrinating me against God. I would not go to a doctor who would so such a thing.
And finally - a Christian doctor would treat an Atheists with as much concern and professionalism as he would a Christian. Where ever you got your information from - its faulty. Unless of course you or a friend ran into a "RARE" exception, in which case a Christian doctor or Atheist Doctor who starts preaching their philosophies to a patient, on the job - he or she would need their license revoked.

Well if the Doctor is Christian, he is likely to value life. as you know most Christians are pro life
An Atheist doctor is likely to be pro choice so if killing a child because they're a burden in the womb is ok, then maybe they think its alright if they're a burden after birth.
A Christian Doctor may realize that he would be responsible for the childs death if he could have done something and didnt.
An Atheist doctor only believes in non existence. So why would he worry about it?

I personally would prefer a Christian doctor who is Catholic since I am Catholic. But I've never thought to ask any of our doctors whether they believed in God or not. I've always trusted God to provide the right one for us.
Doctors take a sacred oath to save lives. I don't think belief or non belief in God will make any doctor try any less to save a life whether it is a child's or an adult's.

Sorry, but I disagree with you. All Doctor try as best they can to save a life. Actually, the Christian Dr. knows the value of life and how precious it is in the sight of God. I think both would do all they could for anyone. I have had both and both were wonderful to me.

I think Christian and Atheist means means nothing as long as you have an empathetic doctor, one who can empathize and put himself in your and your familys place and feel what you are feeling. The only upside I can see to having a christian doctor if you are a christian is that the doctor can encourage you in your faith in god and pray with you. An athiest doctor is as good as any other doctor if they are serious about their job.

Well, I would prefer a Chrisitan doctor. But if one wasn't available I believe as I prayed God would direct them to diagnose what is wrong and course of treatment. Any time I go into surgery or the doctor I pray that God would show them the problem and course of treatment. I do the same for my child as I believe we are in God's hands and He is in control. I've known and worked with athiest doctors. They do care for thier patients and provide good care. I don't have any complaints about any of them.

I would want the doctor who met the needs of my family. So it may depend. There are Atheist and Christians alike who are jerks. And doctors in both categories who are kind, caring people. I'd prefer the kind caring person, no matter what religion they belong to (or don't).
