First of all, keep it simple. Open up your bible in the morning and read a verse on a specific topic that you think you need help in. Reading Psalms or Proverbs is great to read and reflect on all day. If you don't have a topical bible, get one, it helps to look up specific issues or topics. Pray before you start your day and seek protection and guidence. Ask the Lord to use you that day for His kingdom.
Secondly, prayer closet praying is another event not the same as reading your bible. Prayer has to be verbalized out loud and not in your mind. It is a dialogue with God. Just like we do with each other. He can read our minds but you need to speak to Him. It is specifically your alone time with God. Giving Him all of your attention. This is when the Holy Sprit can overshadow you and come over you like a cloak. It feels as if there is something on you. First find a place. Yu could praise Him anywhere like while you are driving but better alone and secluded. It could be in your house, in the shower, or out somewhere like a friend of mine does. He goes to another part of the city near a river. You could go to a pond where no one is or just go into your closet. Go into prayer doing nothing but thanking and praising Him. EX: Father, thankyou for being my Rock, my hope, my salvation, my fortress, you are my provider, you are my strength, you are the Lamb or God, you are the Alpha and Omega, you are the Lion of the Tribe of Judah..... keep praising Him with some of the names that has been given to Him because of who He is. You may need to look these names up and study them so you will know what they mean when you approach Him. Next seek forgiveness even though you have been forgiven already but basically confess your wrong doings and it will be sort be a cleansing process, like the Jewish High Priests did before they entered the temple. They had to go through washings with water. (symbolic). The Lord will reveal things you need to confess. It is just a way for Him to clear your concience. Continue on until your done. Next pray for others. Ask the Lord whom He would have you pray for, listen and speak the first thing that comes to your spirit about who He wants you to pray for. Don't stop prasing Him if you can't think of anything to say if you get stuck and get silent, (helps to keep you from getting sleepy) just tell Him you love Him etc.....then when you are done, you can seek about yourself, but God already knows your needs and He tells others to pray for you if they are praying. Last, do the same thing that you did entering the prayer, give thanks and praise His name. Sometimes it could take 10 minutes to get in His presence, and sometimes an hour or two. It all depends. God is seeing how much you want to commune with Him and how long your are willing to wait. He knows we don't all have that much time everyday. But making an effort and desiring to keep it up will only strengthen your prayer life. It isn't easy to be consistant. All the more reason to keep the enemy from achieving his goal. Which is to make you complacent and lazy enough to get you stop seeking God. One more thing. Dont' go into it expecting anything from God. There can be no motives, or agendas. Just your surrendering to Him to love on Him privately. When He knows your heart is ready, He will respond.

The best thing to do is set aside a particular time each day to spend with God (reading the bible, praying, watching a religious channel, etc) and commit to doing this each day. When you start this, you will find that other things will come up during that time, but hold that time for God only. Don't let the other things interfere. After you do this for a while (some people say 21 days of doing something will make it become a habit) but as you keep this schedule you will find that it WILL become a habit and you will do it each day and you will find that you will spend more time doing it. Good luck! Believe me this will work.

You know you can pray everywhere, in your mind. However, it is good to set time aside for this purpose. What has helped me in my Bible study is listening to a radio program called "Thru the Bible", with Dr. J. Vernon McGee. He has a website at www.ttb.org so you can find out what station he is on in your area, or listen to the daily program online. Since following with him I have read the Bible almost everyday and Dr. McGee explains things so well and funny. God Bless. Check it out.

you don't desire a e book to desire. you have the essence in you. you already comprehend what to desire for and what to desire approximately. The physique is a temple! yet actual once you study the bible you're in reality putting your strategies to artwork for god by ability of analyzing the observe and this i believe is an element of prayer. once you're performed reading god has to enable us to think of roughly those issues that we've studied deeply, so because it particularly is a type of meditation and a type of prayer..So In a manner i could say it is going hand in hand. in spite of the undeniable fact that, we ought to soak up strategies that a number of the scriptures have been tampred with and we must be waiting to decipher what's what,,by reading and meditation/prayer, you will comprehend what's what. God says his every person is destroyed from a loss of understanding, so i believe he needs us to earnings and meditate/pray/evaluate as much as a danger. If all the bibles and words in them are lost, then we nevertheless have our essense, which tells us what's sweet and incorrect and besides as our potential to desire. God lives interior of us and shows us the way, even whilst we've not got the istructions. His ft are constantly interior the sand..

Sure. Two ancient practices that I keep. The monastic Daily Offices (Officium Divinum) and Lectio Divina. Every day. Make it a Rule of Life and it will serve you well.
