Maybe not yet, but Russia isn't too happy about NATO creeping further and further east and popping up in ex- USSR countries, as Russia sees it as a breach of an agreement between Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev and US President George H.W. Bush which allowed for a peaceful unification of Germany. Basically, it seems to be an attempt to surround and isolate Russia. However, there's no arms race, no space race and no wide competition on all fronts (as in industry, military, education, etc).

I don't think so. With the Cold War the sides were largely defined other than some gray areas with small countries. The Soviets largely controlled on their side and the western powers also had large control over things like nukes on their side. I'm afraid that the current situation is much more dangerous and lacks the level of control that helped keep things like the Cuban Missle crisis from erupting into a global war.

NO!
Simply because Russia is regaining a strong central gov't and a Cold War like authority, it doesn't mean a new Cold War in imminent.
Both nations have far too many problems to face it other agian.

A perpetual war is very profitable for the defense contractors. As long as we have a ' threat ' we have to continue military spending to advance our technologies and stock pile our weapons and feed and supply and house troops.....and all that work is done by private corporations that make BILLIONS doing it.
So the question is do you feel we should or are you being told we should.
If you feel should engage in similar activities against this current ' threat ' as we have in the past then that is your opinion and no one can say you are wrong for it.
But yes I think we are setting ourselves up for it because our leaders constantly inform us that right now our very way of life is threatened by these radicals and they won't stop unless we stop them......I mean they want to kill your kids just because they love Jesus.....If you believe what they telling us.

No, I don't think so. The mistrust has been broken there - don't forget Russia were allies with us in WW2; we are more mistrustful of other Nations now.

No, the world has changed, that will not happen again for decades if it ever happens again no matter what countries are involved.
