I suggest a dog at least three years old....as puppies are much more likely to *tear* up the house. If you get a dog from a rescue organization..they will know the tempermant..and they also have pictures of most dogs on their sites.
They can also tell you the size...and if the dog gets along with other dogs.
Although there is no guarauntee that any dog you get will like your brothers dog. Or that your brothers dog will like the dog you get. That is a case to case thing...
Just as you don't like everyone you meet...your dog most likely won't either.
Again...try a rescue organization where a dog already has some training. There are no guarentees of an easy dog to train.
I suggest going to petfinders.com.
And also first really thinking about what a dog will do to your life. Read all you can.
At least you have an idea of what you want. I'm just not sure what you want is a dog. Sounds more like a plant to me. Small..no work..no effort.
Definitely descrbes a plant more than a living animal.
It can work, since you know what you want...as long as your realize...no matter how good the dog is..it is going to be work!
But they can love you back..they are worth it!
Good luck!

Take the beagle to your local shelter along with anyone who will spend a lot of time with the new dog. They will let you pick different dogs, and give you a little room to get to know them. You'll be able to see if there is chemistry between everyone, and if the two dogs will get along. And you may even be saving a life! Too bad dating isn't so easy.

There are several great small dogs. I had always been a big dog lover until I got a pug for my wife. we actually have 2 brother and sister. They are very sweet they have a big dog attitude and love to be with you. we were able to crate train them very fast I think it only took about 1 1/2 weeks. Even though they are not as small as a Chihuahua I think a pug would be a better choice. we also have a boston terrier who love everyone and other pets. So either would be a good choice he also pretty much house trained himself by following the other dogs when they went out to go potty. you can e mail me for more at mypets@newpetanswers.com

I have a pit, a Boston, and 2 chihuahua, the best one out of all of them is my Boston so friendly, fast learner, great dog all around. Now I'm not saying to get one, because every dog is different, I had a pit that past about 2 years ago, and he was the BEST, loved people other dogs, cats, farm animals, he was just the best, I would recommend it be a puppy, and you must also see how your brothers dog acts towards the new pup.

LOL - and your question is? Listen try to spend some time with the dog if you can. Shelters are good places to be able to bring a dog home to see how the dog gets along with others before actually adopting the dog. Good luck.

so...get a dog that is older, and you can skip the puppy chewing stage. Go to your local animal shelter, and look them over. We took the dog out into the yard by itself, and stayed out there long enough for the dog to calm down from the excitement of all the dogs barking, and that helped us get a better idea.
Mixed breeds are often calmer, but if you play with the dog, you can get a sense of how they will handle.
If you go to www.petfinders.com they tell you right up front if the animals are good with other dogs, cats, kids, etc.

If you are looking for one that is easier to potty train get one that is about a year old. At that time they have good control of thier bowels and bladder and don't have to go so often. Also, if getting a brand new puppy, remember, they love to chew and will need to have a constant supply of chew toys and rawhides or your nikes will fill the bill.

A pug is good, a Boston Terrier would be good.
A mutt from the pound would be great! Ask them for a small dog that is housebroken and gets along with others. You'll get a loving pet that really needs you.
