XP Embedded (XPE) = minimalist--nothing more than is needed to actually get the operating system operable with networking....stripped to the basics.
XP home = Stripped down XP
XP = The original suite of utilities
XP Pro = XP + some further applications and utilities geared more toward the enterprise (business)

There is no real difference between XP versions as they are all based on the same OS Foundation.........and you should therefore have no difficulty in the upgrade or having your applications work.

Windows Xp pro is just a advanced version of Windows XP home, it has it's own features for more compatibility and better working environment.

answer for you - yes it will work flawlessly, it will work better if not atleast the same as ur old XP did work !
