such as: you have a CD player, but your not using the batteries at the moment. should you take them out, will they last longer if you do?

Generally removing them won't make them last longer.

Try to remove the batteries from things that are likely to go unattended for very long periods of time. Because they can and do rot and the liquid ruins things.

If you use the CD player every week, and its not hidden in a drawer, leave the batteries in it.

i would say not to take them out, cuz it won't do anythin. just leave it in ur cd player or other electronics, ok?;)
