The same thing has happened to me. There are many reasons, and I hope I can hit them all. First of all, most bases here don't have fast food restaurants, so you are restricted to eating at the chow hall, which is a lot healthier. Also, they tend to serve you exactly what you ask for, instead of the normal (if you get this, you can't get that choice offered at most stateside chow halls), so he is able to eat more and more often. Secondly, if there are not missions going on, there is a lot of down time. Most refer to it as hurry up and wait, with more time spent waiting than anything. Working out is a great way to spend free time and get some time to yourself away from the daily grind of everything. It relaxes you and gets your mind off of convoys, firefights, wounded and killed buddies and so on. Thirdly, he is making more money here, so the supplements like creatine and protein, etc., that he normally can't afford back in the states, well now he can. I came over in shape but a little on the skinny side at 165. I have been here for 4 months and I have gained 25 lbs and gotten cut and I can run farther faster, and lift more than I have ever done in my life. I hope this helps.

Marines are the best, and we have to be able to do things that the others cannot. Thats why we are The Few and The Proud. That and the Marine Corps PT(physical training) progam is absoluty crazy.

He had a lot of self love in Iraq.

Seriously, as my sister says "P.T. is good for the body." Military training gives people an excercise program that the average couch potato does not have.

It's called one hell of a workout while being shot at. Thank your brother for us all, none of the good Americans can ever thank him or any other soldiers over there enough. For me it will always be God Bless America and the ones who fight for our freedom. God Bless and thanks.
