I reported a questioner one time, but usually it's the answers I report. Somebody's answer wasn't too the questioner's liking so they appended the question and said some pretty nasty things, it was particularly bad though. It involved rape.
I don't think it's thought control it's having standards. People can disagree all they want. I think the best thing about this question/answer forum is the exchange of ideas.
But I have no problem reporting someone who singles out somebody and says hateful or nasty things. If I see racial slurs, or hateful slurs of any kind then I'll report.

It isn't about thought control -- there's a whole big web where you can post what you want, so it's not even about freedom of speech.
It's about this site. This site is for people to ask for help or advice, or to ask those interesting questions that are hard to find answers to on the web (Why aren't humans furry? Why do I poop at the same time every day? Why don't we say 'onety-one'? -- to mention a few I've seen on here).
Hence the Guidelines for use of this site (see link, bottom of page).
If the Guidelines (you agreed to, btw, when you signed up for this service) aren't enforced, then the site fills with spam, porn, chat, hate, and other sludge.
People who have the kinds of questions this site was intended for, and people who can give good answers to those questions will come, see a lot of cr*p, and take their interesting questions and their knowledge elsewhere.
This site will have lost its purpose.
Hence, the Abuse Report system.
It's not for reporting things you disagree with, it's for reporting things that violate the guidelines (insults, spam, non-questions or answers, etc.).
It's about preserving this site as a safe place to ask questions, and a place to find interesting questions to answer.

that's a ethical violation for yahoo to tell the consumer call of the guy who mentioned you. which would be a contravention of the community rules and privateness violation. in case you have been informed the consumer call of the guy who mentioned the two your answer or your reaction, you have each and all of the suggestions you're able to desire to aim and harass that distinctive man or woman on your responses and by skill of email. in case you block some one, that would not block that distinctive man or woman from responding on your responses or questions. All blockading some one does is make it impossible for that man or woman to email you. human beings on R & S could be and in many situations are truthfully indignant whilst some one would not accept as true with them, somewhat if the guy they disagree with is logical and tries to stay thoroughly objective of their responses. the comparable style of issues happens in politics and government. All relationships, inclusive of on line family members, are political. The ignorant have merely as a lot remarkable to submit their comments as you and that i do. whilst human beings grow to be abusive and injury the community rules, whether or no longer the understand they're breaking the guidelines, they could desire to be mentioned. maximum actually everyone isn't truthful adequate to confess to their accuser whilst they have mentioned a reaction or a query. some situations I admit when I've mentioned some thing or gotten it deleted, yet i'm brutally truthful, with myself as properly as others. i won't be able to stand hypocrisy. i'm fending off the politics and government section because of the fact each and all of the paranoia and hate has a tendency to disenchanted me. the comparable could be mentioned approximately R & S at situations.

I agree with one of the posts above that said that it's about decency and having good standards.
Yahoo Answers has guidelines and rules that need to be respected and if I see an askar or answer that is going against these guidelines I will report them. So yes I report, but only for those who go against the rules and guidelines of this forum.

The only things I report are point-gaming and spam, because they undermine the whole spirit of Yahoo answers and ruin it for everybody.
I would never report someone just because I disagreed with what they said.

It's not about thought control.
It's about civility and decency.
There are children on this site, and they don't need to see portraits of male members, obscene language, racial epithets and such.
I once heard a man I respect, when someone was going to tell him a foul joke inform the teller that it wasn't appropriate. The would-be jokester said "there aren't any ladies here", to which my friend responded "but there is a gentleman present."
Civility is not a moral defect.

Yahoo is a company providing a service to members, not the government, and therefore has the right to limit the speech of participants.
