My point is, with all this blather about immigrants stealing low paying jobs, no--it's jobs Americans don't want, no--the wage should be increased so Americans WOULD pick lettuce, etc, is that if a typical worker could pick, say, 100 head in an hour, and we agreed to increase wages the HORRIBLY INFLATIONARY $2.00 MORE PER HOUR THAT WOULD WREAK HAVOC FOR FOOD PRICES AND DRIVE AMERICA INTO AN ECONOMIC DEATH SPIRAL, it'd add a whopping TWO CENTS to each head of lettuce. Since the price fluctuates more than that normally, what am I missing here? Thank you.

...really, I'm just trying to get a handle on numbers to see if we're hearing 'scare' arguments from one side or the other, particularly if no one needs to suffer.

Well, I think the question really should be, " how many chucks could a wood chuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood?" It makes more sense if you hold your tongue while saying it.

Construction jobs did pay a decent wage and American workers could support their family's& pay their taxes, but with contractors cutting pay and hiring illegals its killing the industry.Construction cost are going up,workmanship is going down and the American consumers suffers.Lettuce is a different product but the same thing happens there, the illegals will work for less than the legal workers thus hurting their jobs, the contractor gets richer and the consumers get e-coil.Illegal immigration is destroying our country!

I agree with Haley,Americans were fine before illigals came here . Heres a twist on the " illegals will do jobs Americans wont" though just for example the citrus has been frozen in Calif and so the governer wants to give all the workers government compensation.Meanwhile the dems say we need a worker program so farmers have enough workers to pick produce. So why dont the workers just get a different job? Instead of taking the free handouts? Simple they dont come here for jobs they come here for a free ride..... American tax payers know that.

prices of lettuce will still go up once they are legal as they will then be legal HELLO people add it up. and either way we go we will be paying more and one of those companies they did a raid on they had to raise the wage and hire legal Americans some did quit because of horrible working conditions that no one should have to work in which leads me to think of e coli , and other unsafe things lurking in our food just so evil companies can be richer mean while libs have a warm fuzzy feeling in their hearts. do you remember in the past people fighting for the right to have safe working conditions labor union disputes all thrown out the window so people can believe a false lie they will save a few cents and that Americans wont do it get real people !

well, you said 100....so I'll go with 100...you are missing the fact that whatever the wage is, that is what is paid....there are low paying jobs out there, fact of life..

what are the qualifications for lettuce pickers??..
