As you can tell from the answers so far, your car covers many areas, depending on what you consider a luxury car.
I have driven Lincolns, Cadillacs, BMW's, Mercedes, Porshce, Infiniti, Lexus (get great company cars :)
I own an older Cadillac Coupe Deville, and a Saab 9-5, and a Chevy Avalanche.
Cadillacs are great cars for road trips, Saab is a great sports/luxury car without the outrageous price, and is not as egotistical as some "luxury" cars.
Narrow down what you are wanting in a luxury car, personal/business, around town driving/cross country driving, etc.
I will say that, when ready to retire the Saab, I'll compare another Saab with the BMW 5 series, for they both have great track records, and strong German/Swedish engineering.

i'd say the posh vehicle, purely make it a Lexus, Acura or an Infiniti. you may have problems with a Lincoln, Cadillac or Mercedes (BMW will in all probability be too severe priced). Plus with paying for a used vehicle, you enable somebody else take the hit on depreciation. you also get more suitable "status" with a luxurious vehicle. you may have one of 5 Cobalts or Mazda 3's interior the parking zone at artwork, or have the purely 2002 Lexus.

Luxury cars are not affordable LOL!
Having said that here is my personal opinion the best car is determined by what is important to you
VOLVO is the safest (FORD)
SAAB was German engineering at its finest (GM)
JAGUAR is sleek (FORD)
CADI'S are the ultimate in luxury (GM)
BMWS move like nothing else
BENZ caters to their customers (arent they under Chrysler now)
ROLLS ROYCE is classic
BENTLEY is stately
ASTON MARTIN is European
Yes there are also Lamborghini, Saab, Porsche and a host of others to chose from but my favorite would be the elusive MAYBACH.
Hope this helps.

$30k-$39k
Lincoln MKZ - For the money, you can't beat the Lincoln in terms of features and amenities.
$40k-$49k
BMW 3-Series/Audi A4: I personally like performance sedans. The Cadillac CTS-V, Lexus IS, and Infiniti G would be a good bet too.
$50k-$59k
BMW 5-Series/Benz E-Class, Cadillac STS
$60k+
Once you're above $60k, a variety of doors open and most cars above this price is pretty good.
