I'm afraid you need to go check the Bible properly before posting questions like that. The Bible states in Genesis that Adam and Eve had NO knowledge of good and evil before they partook of the tree of knowledge. It makes perfect sense. Mind you it's all metaphorical anyway, because the Tree of knowledge is simply knowledge itself, and before Adam and Eve gained knowledge they knew only cause and effect, not the motive behind.
Definitely check your facts. If you aren't a christian I'd advise steering away from saying what Christian's think too. I've been chastised many a time for that mistake!

Step one: the serpent (devil) tricked Eve into eating the apple, Eve didn't know who or what the devil was. once she ate the fruit, she had sinned against God, then made Adam eat the fruit. -am I going too fast?
Step two: Then they realized that they were naked THEY WERE ASHAMED and put whatever, bushes, leaves on themselves. the reason they covered themselves isn't because they did or didn't know they were naked. THEY WERE ASHAMED that they were naked standing in front of each other naked. -duh.
Step three: Christians do know what is good and evil, BUT PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES. Heck, you know what's good and evil, but you still do whats evil, such as sleeping with someone you are not married too!
Instead of wasting our time asking this question, maybe you should re-read the story, and actually break away from whatever you've been thinking.

You are mistaken. How could Adam and Eve known what evil was? They had never sinned and walked in perfect fellowship with God Almighty.
Gen 3:22 says: And the Lord God said, the man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil.
It was after they sinned that they became aware of their nakedness and ran and hid.
It was after they sinned, that their eyes were opened.
Read the book of Genesis and don't just go by what you are told.
God Bless You.....Peace.

Perhaps if you would actually read the passage with understanding, it would make the perfect sense that it is.
(Adam and Eve did not have the knowledge of good and evil before eating the fruit of the forbidden tree. What they had was a choice: obedience to God, or disobedience to Him?)

Of course they knew they were naked. But they hadn't thought of it as something bad, being naked in itself isn't bad- "ashamed" I think is the word one translation uses. It's not just that they were naked, its the fact that God gave them ONE commandment and they didn't obey it - so they wanted to cover themselves up. They tried to hide their misdeed - Adam blamed Eve who blamed the Serpent...
The tree was the decisive point - if you're good, you won't give in to temptation. If bad, you eat. Adam and Eve gave in to temptation, they let a serpent tell them that God was lying to them and that if they ate from the tree, they could be like God. Their "eyes were opened" because they realized their mistake. In that way, they did decide for themselves from then on what was good and bad. No guidance was given to them(Adam and Eve) specifically after that from God. They made themselves independent from God - just like Satan had already done.

We all have knowledge of good and evil yet at times we choose to sin. So too the myth of Adam and Eve. We sin because we disagree with God and think our way is better than God's.

They only had God's word that they were not to eat of that tree. That was supposed to be enough.
Instead of believing God, they believed the serpent(devil)........just as most people , who DO know good from evil, do today.
There is no excuse.

That was the whole point about eternal sin. Humans are born sinful. We know the difference between right and wrong and we try to do right, but we give in to temptation. We can't help ourselves because we're human. That is why God forgives us all.

Because God gave them free will and they chose to eat from the tree. He gives us all free will and thats why the world isn't perfect
