Do you really mean SSI (Supplemental Security Income) or do you mean social security?
SSI can be received at any age.
Social security on your own record can be collected starting as early as age 62, but benefits will be reduced depending on how many months it is until your full retirement age, which is between 65 and 67 depending on when you were born.
Social security disability benefits doesn't have an age limit, but can be collected as long as the person has met the requirements to be covered and is found to be disabled.
And as someone else said, children of a deceased person who was covered by social security can collect benefits.
If you are reaching retirement age and want to start collecting your social security, you have to apply. You can do that online at ssa.gov.

You can be any age to collect SSI if you are disabled AND have low or no income and low to no resources. You can also be any age to collect SSD if you have a disability and have a work history OR have a parent that has a work history and is disabled, deceased, or retired. Also, if you are trying to collect on a parents record, you would have to be disabled BEFORE you are 22 years old.
If you are found to be eligible for SSI and / or SSD before you are 18 years old, you will have to have a representative payee. A rep payee is someone that would get your checks for you and use your money to pay your bills. A rep payee would also have to give you some personal spending money.

go to this web site and get your social security benefit info/statement if you are putting money in, then down the line you will reap from it,, don't think you will get a ton,as everyone's benefit amount differs..
Also not everyone can start drawing at age 62 ,as the government has been changing the laws, stating people are living longer and making younger people collect social security, much later, like 64 1/2 yrs old or later
It is a good idea to get your statement once and awhile to see what you might be able to receive when you reach your benefit age??? It is free and they mail it to you, I do it every yr...

not an age. If you are a kid and one of your parents dies it's possible that you get partial SSI benefits depending on how long they paid in, etc., until you are no longer full time student or no longer at home. Some disabilities get SSI benefits as well. If neither of those, then 62 when you can start pulling in partials and I think 65 or 68 for full. Have to fill out forms at SOC SEC ADMIN OFFICE nearest you. Must have proof of id like your SSAN Card, birth certif, and other qualifying papers depending on your situation.
