I suggest you to use 'Privacy Guardian' which guarantees your privacy by ensuring all traces of your online Internet and computer activities are permanently erased and unrecoverable on your PC. it can be found in the source below, hope it helps :>

You need a FireWall, If you have Windows NT or 2000 be sure its activated. Window ME is DOS so none is required. You can dowload one free from www.zonealarm.com for Windows NT Its much better than Windows FireWall and it has updates for free too.

A firewall prevents communication with your computer by anyone who is unautohorized to do so. Kind of a Policeman on line REmember, the internet is like the old wild west without a shierf.

If you don't want your privacy leaked, then never give out any personal information. Never answer surveys, or unwanted email, don't subscribe to newsletters, don't ask and answer questions in Yahoo Answers, because your personal profile is open to viewing by other people. In short, if you want to protect your privacy, don't go online.

Look into a Spyware remover. I just downloaded the Yahoo toolbar that has Norton Spyware remover. I use the quick scan with cookies 3-4 times a week. You would be suprised how many you have now. Check it out.
