This is a curious idea I was struck with recently. Suppose you could create a clone of yourself to take over your life after you die? You submit a sample of your DNA and when you die, they create a duplicate of you, to whom you leave your entire life. This clone could be a fully developed adult, or it could be a newborn who would inherit your estate. What are the ramifications and ethical concerns, and if you would do it, how would you arrange it?

I will ring your doorbell and run away!!!

First of all it would be more like your twin, and would not be a good you at all, because he does not know everything about you. If it could actually be done, the answer would be no because it would be wrong and deceitful. Who cares about your life insurance policy after you die. Your kids might need it to get by, if you have a clone taking your place then your children do not receive it and what are they going to do?

Like the Movie The 6th Day - where they can contain your memories too - then your clone is the same in every way - so you would be living over and over with all the same knowledge.

But what about a soul? If we indeed have a soul then still it would be someone else.

Like in that movie The Island? I think it would come up against the same ethical issues they faced in that movie...the clone would still be a living person with rights.

No, because they would just look like you, not have the same personality. A lot of a person's development depends on their environment... I'd be scared that my clone would turn into some evil person...

Sounds like fun.

I want a clone to protect my doorbell 24/7!

I wouldn't, because even if the clone was exactly like me physically, she wouldn't have my experiences and my memories, so she still would not be me.
