Apply pressure first of all. There is this stuff called Quikstop or Styptic Powder which you can probably find at a Pet Store. That will stop the bleeding.

Pressure on it with anything will work, you can buy styptic powder which works fast, but in a pinch flour will work. Pack it on the tip of the nail anad bleeding will stop. Peroxide or alcohol will clean it, but not stop bleeding. Do'nt worry too much, it takes practice to learn to clip nails. But be prepared, because the blood can sure spurt all over the place if you hit the vessel. If you're squeamish with blood, don't clip nails without someone else in the room, or your dog will get blood all over everything. He would eventually clot naturally, but it is better to put pressure on it and stop bleeding fast.

There is a product called stop bleed it is a steptic powder you just pour it on the nail or if you don't have any close by you can use the old pressure method apply pressure to the bleeding area with a paper towel or rag. Its usually not as bad as it looks and will stop bleeding pretty quick. Good Luck

Hmmmm, you have gotten allot of different anwers..
IF you don't have any 'QuickStop' (septic powder)
Then get some cornstarch or flour and make a real thick paste and dab it on the nail .....keep dabbing it on ....don't wipe it off. just keep adding untill it stops.
There is allot of blood that comes out of the toenails of dogs/cats ect...it's some kind of a vein.
Hope with all this help that you have that your dog is better.
Good luck...~wink~

Well, the only thing I can suggest is the same thing I did for my dog when "I" did that. I cleaned the nail with mild soap and water, dried it, then I applied a liquid band aid. You can buy this at just about any store like wal-mart, walgreens, ect. And it won't hurt the dog, okay? Good luck.

Go to the nearest pet supply store and get some styptic powder. I'm giving you an example of this type of product below. If all the pet supply stores are closed, try to find an all night drug store and pick up a styptic stick. They're usually by the razors and razor blades and sold for use by people who nick themselves shaving. Hope this helps.

Some people say put alcohol on it, but I think that's kinda like doggie abuse. Put a cotton swab with vitamin E on it, trust me it works!!! Don't listen to WJ sugar can REALLY hurt the dog with an open wound!!!! Don't listen to Lizzee F either hot wax or hot glue gun is just like taking those things and putting them on your tender areas, a dogs feet and toenails are one of the most tender places on a dog!!!

Just put pressure on it. Next time dont cut them as short, or take them to get their nails done. By the time you run out to any store or look through all your things the dogs nail will stop bleeding. Just put pressure on it for a few min and it will be good as new.

Do not try all of that home remedy crap, get the stuff from the store or just let your dog lick it he will be fine. He's a dog. They bleed.
