The only two I could recommend, are the Canon Powershot S3 IS...or the Sony H5.
Panasonic have excellent image stabilizer superzooms, however they are let down by their sensors, which are far too 'noisy'...and I would never consider them because of this.

Here is an excerpt from one of the reviews below...
"Both cameras carry similar specifications and are capable of delivering high-quality images. The S3 IS advantages include better Continuous AF tracking of moving subjects, industry-leading movie mode, articulating LCD monitor, faster shutter speeds and greater continuous shooting speed and buffer depth. On the other hand, the H5 provides greater indoor flash range and AF-assist performance, a larger LCD monitor, lower image noise at high ISO settings, ISO 1000, Smart Digital Zoom, Multi Burst mode and an extra 1-megapixel of resolution."

In all honesty you only have a few choices. Any SLR 35mm camera will work if you have the correct lenses with it.

If you're going DSLR, your best bet would be the Canon Rebel with macro and telephoto lense. The Canon Rebel is like being a sniper with a picture-taking gun. No other camera can compete with it.

You could go cheap and get some cameras with up to 10 or 12 optical zoom on them but the quality sucks on nearly every Kodak and HP camera. Don't go for one of those all-around cameras you get at Best Buy, Office Max, etc.

And don't buy a camera based on digital zoom as that's not the same thing as optical (visual) zoom.

If you only can afford a Ultra Zoom camera then I would recommond the Canon S3 IS. It has 12x optical zoom and it takes really nice pictures.

If you do have the money however I would recommond you get an SLR if you are getting into photography because later on it gives you a vast variety of lens you can choose from. But if you dont at least have $1500 then I dont recommond you getting it just yet.

If you're talking about digital, I have the Kodak Z650 and it rocks! It's a 6.1 megapixal with 10x optial zoom. It's Optical Zoom that your looking for. Z650 has other lens' available for even greater shots. I got my camera on sale at Best Buy for $189. But I just saw the new Kodak Z710 on special at Walmart for $218 (regular $289). I am super impressed with this camera.

Everybody giving their opinion, here's mine. Sony Cybershot DSC-H2. Can be gotten for $300. 6 megapixels, 12X optical zoom, image stabilizer, excellent on batteries.comes with batteries and battery charger.I own it, love it. Also consider Fugifilm FinePix S5200. 5 MP, 10X optical zoom. Goes to 1/2000 of second, ISO range 64 to 1600.Excellent on batteries. I paid $270. Got it for my daughter. Both cameras can produce excellent 8X 10's when enlarged.

The ones with the highest optical zoom and highest megapixels are what you should look out for. Good luck!
