The answer to this question is simple. The chicken evolved from another creature that we wouldn't recognise as a chicken today. Since that 'not quite a chicken as we know it' would have come from an egg, then it has to be the egg.

Basically, Cosmologists, Theologists and most Scientists have settled on the egg. Philosophers continue to hum and ha, but only the mad Frenchies will put up a real fight on the issue. And even they are easy compared to being ground under by a German Logik Machine with a chicken on his back.

Let us first stipulate that what we know about the evolution of birds is true, that birds are descendants of dinosaurs.
A chicken is a bird, therefore a descendant of dinosaurs.
Dinosaurs were oviparous, or egg-laying,
Since the dinosaur predates the chicken and the dinosaur laid eggs, clearly the egg came before the chicken.

The chicken because the egg would have died if it had no chicken to sit on it and keep it warm and because when the egg hatched if it made it through all that somehow the chicken would not know how to survive or anything.

If your a Christian, as I am, and believe in the creation,then obviously the chicken came first.And I don't doubt that the universe may have began with a big bang. The question is Who's responsible for causing the Big Bang? GOD!

Well,since scientists now believe that all birds (including chickens) evolved from reptiles that left the water and developed lungs, and came upon the land, the egg would have come first, since reptiles lay eggs to hatch young. The egg-laying reptiles would later evolve into feathered mammals, the chicken , as we know it, would have come much later.

Well it would have to of been the egg but then again you need a chicken to produce the egg.......... Very good question you'll have lots of people thinking about this one.
