Those programs slow down my computer and jam my memory.
Need to manage them. The start-up folder only contains some of them. Where are the others?

press ctrl+alt+del. This will give you the task manager (or give you a menu in which you can select task manager) In that window you will see a tab that says "processes". This tab will show you all the little programs that were initiated upon start up. Look for the heading that say "cpu". That will tell you the percentage of system resources it is using to run. You can highlight the ones you do not want running and click "end process". Hint: explorer.exe is the task bar at the bottom of the screen, do not end that one. (learned it the hard way)

I recommend the use of the Windows startup manager http://www.neosoft-tools.com/windows-startup-manager.htm
It disables any startup programs and fully controls startup by selecting the programs to be launched, while customizing the startup settings (ie how often and when programs should be launched, etc).

I was going to write this out, but then I found this great step-by-step. It's exactly what I was going to say.
