She was thoroughly potty trained, she was at the point that she would claw and wait at the door to tell me she had to go out side to pee. My puppy is 7 months old, and she just had her spay last week, ever since her spay she seems to be regressing back to her younger puppy days when she used to pee in the house and in her crate. Is this normal behavior after a spay? Or is this her way of trying to find out what she can and cannot get away with? Any suggestions??

A lot of female dogs struggle with "holding it" right after they have been spayed. You have to remember, she had surgery down there and everything is still healing and rather sore. Although part of it may be her acting out after being spayed, most of it, is that she simply can't hold it quite as long as she could before. Give it a couple weeks, and try to take her a little more often than you have previously been, and she should come around. I just had mine go through the same thing about 6 months ago, and it took her a week or two to get back to a consistent schedule. She'll heal up soon and all will be back to normal!

Just keep in mind, dogs don't 'plan' things, so she's not just trying to see what she can get away with. She may have been traumatized by being spayed and is just doing what so many human's do...reverting back to a time when she got a lot of babying, or...she DID just have abdominal surgery. It's a sensitive area and it's also in the area of her bladder. She may be sore, or even have a bladder or kidney infection. I'd call the vet and ask what they think. Otherwise, start taking her to the front door, praising her before you go out AND when she does her business, and in a few days, she'll be her old self. Good luck!

My dog did the same thing after her spay. The vet said that any stressful situation can make a dog misbehave like that, but that because she did have surgery, we should take her back in to be looked at. She was fine, and started going outside again within two weeks. Hope that helps....but you probably should call the vet just in case.

I think you may want to call the vet and ask their opinion. She may have some kind of infection. Possibly she is just hurting and not wanting to go out so she waits too long. Or, like you think, she may be just pushing to see what she can get away with.

Dogs don't like to mess up their crate. Especially if it is shut. If she is messing her crate, there may be something wrong.

Not much help, but it sounds like you may really want to contact your vet for help.

Good Luck

7 months is pretty young for a 100% accident free housebroken dog. Call the vet tomorrow and tell him what's going on, because she may be suffering some side-effects from the surgery. It may also be that her sutures hurt, and her bladder may have gotten bruised during her operation, and it just hurts too much to hold it.

In any case, discuss it with your vet tomorrow.

check out if she has an infection first. a lot if times dogs go inappropriately to communicate that they are sick. call the vet & take them a urine sample. i've never had a dog (male or female) start goingin the house after they got fixed. if she doesn't have an infection-she might just need to be re-trained. i've had a few dogs that just forgot (or chose to forget) after they appeared trained. get some nature's miracle to clean up her messes so she can't smell them inside anymore. good luck!

sometimes when a dog is spayed they will have accidents until the muscles around the bladder and the ureathea(sp) re develope themselves--it should clear up shortly, if it doesnt ask your vet about what to do

She's just being a puppy. Even seemingly well trained puppies have their days or phases when they push your limits. Train her just as you did the first time. You need to be firm and not let her get away with it.
