Both offer similar products. I've found H&R Block is cheaper, especially with their Loan products. Also, the H&R is open year round in my city. Jackson Hewitt closes on April 15th.

If you are a wage earner with no business of your own and no investments other than bank accounts and stocks, either will get the job done. If you have any type of special issue, consider buying turbotax and doing it yourself or hiring a local CPA to do your taxes. The tax preparers at HR Block and Jackson have been trained by those companies. An accountant is either a CPA, who passed a grueling exam given by the state or an EA, who passed about half of that exam (just the tax issues) given by the IRS. Either way, you are dealing with a more skilled professional.
BTW, I am not a CPA.

My husband and I do Turbotax.com We have never had a problem with them and it is very detailed and easy plus a bit cheaper than the others. we pay 60 bucks and it is taken out of the return . so really no upfront worries .
