Somebody told me that she's so young and still weening. I'm worried because she only wants to sleep with me. I'v had her only a few days and she just cries and cries if i place her in her cage. I tried to keep her in the cage last night and she cried (loud) for 4 hours straight. It was heartbreaking and since then she's slept with me. Unfortunately it;s very uncomfortable for me as it causes me to loose sleep. Maybe it was too young to leave her mother. If so, why didn't the breeder tell me this -or is this normal. Plus, I;m a new puppy owner so this makes me very nervous and (tired). She's adorable and I only want the best for her. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding this? Please help!

We just got a puppy for Christmas. She was 7 weeks old too. (born Nov.8) The first night was hard. She was up seriously crying every 15 minutes. I finally gave in at 2am and slept on the couch with her on my chest. The next few nights we tried her in our bed and yes, it was hell. She was sleeping on our heads...just all over the place. Wanted to play in the middle of the night....oh it was just terrible. Here's what we ended up doing. We got her "caged" into our kitchen. (a closet door taken off and layed across the kitchen and dining room) We put her in there when we were out in the living room. She could hear us but not see us. At first she would cry. The vet told us to just ignore her and every few minutes say loudly SSHHH. In time it got better. You can't run to her every time she cries in there though or she will come to think she cries and gets attention. If you let her to keep sleeping with you she will go through separation anxity and you'll never be able to go out without her. I know it's hard. I have had 4 babies and I found it easier to care for a newborn human than a puppy. If you can just bear with it for the first 3 weeks you got it licked. My puppy is now able to be left alone, sleeps every night in her kitchen and has even learned how to sit now! :D She is still a "sucky puppy" (that's what I call her) and we still can't get the whole feeding scheduale down but hey...we're doing good and so will you. Good luck!! :D

Oh ya and we also gave her a blanket as a bed and all her toys are in there.

she was just taken from her mommy...she needs security like all babies. To get her to adjust, try placing her in her cage when you leave the house to get her adjusted to it, place something in there that has your scent like a pillow case that you have used. You could also call the breeder and ask her if you could have a towel or something that has the mothers scent. That might bring her comfort. Just explain to the breeder that you think she might be having a hard time adjusting to her new home, if she is an informed breeder I'm sure she will have some good suggestions too.

Put a hot water bottle in the crate with her. A clock that ticks, a couple of stuffed buddies to keep her company. Plenty of blankets to snuggle into. Then put her in the laundry room and close the door, play some music in your room so that you can drown out the sound.

Yes, having a puppy is very exhausting. but this is what we do to get by until they sleep all night.

properly, it in all probability become your fault, yet I even ought to confess that i'd probably do a similar element if I observed a domestic dog operating free. I have, actual, and that i have stuck great dogs as well, yet they have come to me at the same time as noted as or coaxed and that i did not scruff them, yet placed a leash on them instead. As for each body retaining that this puppy is strange, perhaps that is purely dealing with an apprehension level. I had a great mixed breed who become fearful of each little thing at the same time as she become that age,and that i have also had a VICIOUS 3 week previous puppy: <<<

I've had a lot of dogs (buddies) and it seems like they all go thru that phase where, once you get them (the puppies), they think they have to be with you ALL the time. I want to get a puppy, but I know there will be a rough time for it when I go to work. The dogs I got before I let them stay in the garage, where it is very comfortable, and had plenty of water and food. They whined for awhile, but eventually got used to their new living quarters.

Try sleeping with a towel, to get your sent on it, then placing that in her cage, along with either you can get a ticking clock, or in the baby section of the store you can get a device that copys a heart beat, the puppy is not used to being alone and is lonely, with your sent and the sound of another heart beat it wont feel alone.

Give her a nice, soft blanket , and also a nice, soft toy a little smaller than she is. She's missing the warmth of her mother, and is in a strange place . She'll get used to it. My Cavalier sleeps with me all the time. She's two, and still loves her own, soft blanket. When I had three dogs, they all eventually slept with my son. Good luck... and they're all definitely worth the trouble. It'll will pass, as soon as she's a little older. She'll adopt you as her mother!! It's normal.

make her fall asleep in your lap and then genty carry her into her cage while she's still knocked out. if she wakes up and stars crying, ignore. she needs to get used to it. put on some soft music and give her an extra-soft blanket and she should fall asleep, or put a snack in her cage and maybe it'll distract her from the fact that you're missing. if it gets bad, just ignore her, close the door, go to sleep. she will only get worse if you keep letting her sleep with you.

Try putting a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel and a ticking clock with it in it's cage. Apparently, this simulates the warmth of the mother's body, and the ticking simulates the mother's heartbeat. I hear it's supposed to work...
