Best way to learn is to surround yourself with people who speak the language and talk with them. When I was in the military it worked better than the classroom for me.

Hey I'm Chinese too,and I'm learning English.I think the best way to learn English is to use it.Compared with other foreign languages,English is not that difficult,so be confident of yourself! And,what I want to say is ,there is no shame in making mistakes!Have you heard any foreigner speak Chinese before? They couldn't pronounce a single Chinese word correctly!
If you're shy away from talking to native English speakers,I think you can chat with Chinese first, and try to read in English, watch more English movies,I bet that would be helpful.Best wishes!

The only effective way to learn any second language is called "immersion". It means putting yourself in an environment where you speak ONLY the second language. Every language is learned by children through this manner; they "absorb" language , and seem to learn not only words but spoken grammar and language meaning in a context of the SOUND of words together with the CONTEXT in which the word is used. VERBS especially need to be used in a working context. NOUNS can be memorized, but the use of full sentences and ideas will enable you to learn much more quickly. Speak to native speakers of the second language; listen to radio and television in the context , and coordinate with the pictures in newspapers and magazines. Learn various different meanings of similar sounding words. This is not a perfect way to learn, but it is much better than classrooms and lectures.

Good luck.

Live in the country for several years. Even so, this is not a guarantee. My sister-in-law's mother came here from China about 30 years ago and never learned to speak English. I guess it depends on your effort and desire.
