I am joining the army national guard. I need help with choosing my MOS. I don't want to end up on the battle field, however, I still want to kick major ***. My only optional selections so far have been psy. ops (37F) or Human Intell.(97E). I just need some advice on this, and I don't want to end up being a food specialist or mechanic/engineer.

When someone joins the National Guard their choice of MOSs are often limited by how far they want to drive to drill. As a new enlistee a person is usually limited to the MOSs available at a local unit. The two MOSs you have listed are fine. They involve doing a lot of interesting stuff. At drill you'll also do a lot of boring stuff regardless of your MOS.

I do have a few notes:
1. If you'd rather not be in a war zone then don't enlist. The warzone in Iraq starts at the Kuwaiti border - there are no "front lines". Both of those MOSs will involve getting out of a bunker and seeing what the heck is going on.
2. Never mess with the folks that work in finance and never mess with the cooks. The food service sergeant can be a key person in a unit.
3. Every unit has a motor pool and every equipment operator will do a certain amount of maintenance. It is OK not to want to be a mechanic but you'll still have to add your own oil and clean your own ride. Don't mess with the mechanics lest you always be assigned the biggest hunk of junk in the motor pool.

If you're joining the Army then you need to be prepared that there is a big chance that you will end up on the battle field. When it comes down to it, that's what you're signing up for - to defend our country.
As for a MOS, try something that you would enjoy doing for the duration of your enlistment. Don't just pick something for the bonus.

Good luck

Just keep this in mind.....no matter what your MOS is, you can still end up on the battlefield. You can always ask the guys in the army band.......who are patrolling the streets of Baghdad....without their instruments. The minute you raise your hand and take the oath you belong to Uncle Sam....no matter what your recruiter tells you. I was 11 Bravo...infantry. Got out in 1985. You want to be awesome? Start off with infantry then go to special forces, then the skies the limit for you. When it's your time to go, no matter where you're at....or what you do.....you'll go. Best of luck to you.

Grow up!!!!!

The last time I was in Iraq (I am here again), the MOSs that saw the most action in my unit was the ammunition handlers and the COOKs. That was because we made them our Quick Reaction Force.
And the Army Band was guarding Baghdad International Airport. And they lost soldiers too.
If you are in the military, you should be ready to fight. Otherwise, stay out of my Army.

If you dont want to fight, go to the Navy.

Better yet, go to France!!!

And PsyOps? lol, we take them on patrol with us all the time, who told you they dont fight? Your recruiter can't tell you you wont fight, we ALLLLLLL fight.
