Is it safe for a 10 year old child to drink a protein shake as a dietary suppliment with a healty diet. That is considering that he is active. He is about 30 lbs overweight.

a protein shake is not good for a 10 year old. Tell him to wait a few years and when he is about 14 he can start drinking protein shakes and working out. Protein shakes cause a person to gain weight unless they are working out. If a doctor has put him on the shakes, disreguard what I have said.

He shouldn't need a dietary suppliment, especially not a protein one. Most people get enough or too much protein as it is. Keep him active and trying to lose weight. 30 lbs at 10 can lead to a lot more later on in life.

judging by the amount overweight i would thing that consuming the protein shake would not be the best of ideas, especially without the consent of a nutritionist or doctor, And being tenm, it is too early to start that kind of stuff anyways

If he's only 10 and already overweight, why are you adding extra calories to his "healthy diet"? Cut down on his calories and make sure that he gets at least an hour of exercise/play a day. Don't add more calories...he's already getting obesity problems.

Protein is very hard on the kidneys, especially for kids.

Protien shake? I assume you are his mother, how about you get him to eat healthier and exercise.

I would call your Dr., and ask their opinion.
Or, speak to a nutritionist, they would be able to give you good advice.

I should think not. He's only ten. But you should talk to your family physician and get his advice.
