Absolutely. There's nothing that ruffles my feathers more than sad, sad women who aspire to do nothing more than lounge about the house and get fat.

What a woman does is her choice, plus a matter of economic circumstances. Being a housewife is a very hard and very important job: keeping a household running smoothly, without too many worries makes the life of the earner considerably easier. It is an important function and a great contribution to society.

However, it would not be my choice to stay at home. There just are not decent full time jobs for older people in my area. I had to take a part time job.

That depends. If she is contributing to her family and does something that is her and her families business. If she wants to participate she should. There are a lot of women that go out to work because they have to to eat and live. They aren't making a contribution in any way except their family and their employer. A lot of men don't do anything either so the gender thing isn't relevant. All people should want to make the world a better place, not all do or can. so, the question is not easy to answer in how you asked it. Nothing wrong with being a housewife if that's what you want to do and it makes you happy. If not, it's wrong for anyone....people should have freedom and happiness if they can obtain it.

Wouldn't it be so rad if they did!..probably half the numbers of wars, and world poverty, bring about a more caring society, and get rid of so much corruption as well!..Unfortunately, its not going to happen in the real world!..Particularly in the good ol' US of A!..Reasons?..Big corporates wont stand for it, 98% of board rooms are men!..The extreme religious right will always oppose women on biblical grounds doing anything usefully or productive at all..You should be all 'barefoot and pregnant and in the kitchen'!
Men, who think they 'control' better, will not tolerate it because they will see it as a loss of male power and an attack on maleness,{Most of these men think its still only 1956}..Oh yes, you women would bring about changes much for the better!..However, i am a realist, i wish it would happen, but those above just wont let it!..Sorry...

I don't aspire to do nothing and get fat. I am a housewife now after working 20 years. I am far from fat. I take care of my husband so he can go to work with no worries about household chores. I support him so he can focus on his job.

I volunteer at the church feeding those less fortunate...is that nothing?

What on earth is more important than raising children?!?

I can't remember who it was, but some European country did a study on what a housewife should get paid, based on what they do - it was well over six figures a year.

Thanks for playing!

You're kidding, right? What could be more important than raising the next generation? The one that is going to decide whether you get your Social Security and Medicare, or NOT! Think BIG picture.

If a woman is a good wife and mother she is helping society more than working at a career.

What a crummy thing to ask ! ! ! Use your head for god's sakes! If someone WANTS to be a housewife that's her choice....infact I did it. There's ALOT of work raising children and keeping house, running errands, cooking HOMEMADE meals etc. etc..... What you think housewives sit on their butts all day watching soap operas.....WRONG! I think someone has had a huge fight with his wife. If someone wants to work outside the home or whatever you think they should be doing (????) then that's up to them also. This IS the millenium here.......honestly! I saw that same thing to arctichick...it was alot of $$$ per hour.
