youdon't say how old your son is??? go to a health store and buy some non alcholic swedish bitters / exilir - 1 teaspoon mixed to a glass of water should turn him off for life, if the smell doesn't first lol. worst case after 14 diff herbs, he'll be feeling very healthy for a few days... :-) disguise in a rum bottle lol.

I suggest just buying the non-alcoholic beer and letting him have a taste. If you say no, he will try to rebel, and that could have bad side effects - sometimes even fatal. Let him see how it tastes, as that is probably what is driving him in the first place. That and the idea that he will get "smashed." If he starts acting drunk, explain to him that he was drinking non alcoholic beer in the first place...I'm sure he will settle down and be greatly embaressed in front of you. My dad let me take a spoon full of his drinks whenever he had them, but not to any of my other sisters. My two youngest sisters are heavy drinkers (and neither are of legal drinking age yet), and I beleive it is in part that he didnt let them have any and they are naturally rebelling. I turned 21 this past summer and I have yet to get completely obliterated, simply because I have tasted all types of alcohol and the novelty of it has disappeared.

The non alcoholic beer can usually be found at a liquor store. Just ask the clerks if they have any in stock. Sometimes they are even sold in singles, so you wont have to waste your money on a 6 pack.

Also, if he wants to try something a bit classier, I suggest giving him some non-alcoholic cooking wine. It doesnt taste exactly the same as wine, but close enough that he will get the idea.

Or, you could do exactly what my dad did - give me spoonfulls of his drinks whenever he had them, so I developed a taste for alcohol, which I now find to be a so-so beverage.

Another thing - if you really want to teach him about how dangerous underage drinking can be, is to go to the local police station and see if they will let you borrow their Beer Goggles. These are actual goggles that your son can put on, and then the cops can ask him to do all the drunk tests. After about 10 minutes, he will, literally, feel sick to his stomach, and may not want to try a drop until he is legal.

What you could try to do is instead of giving him fake alcohol, get the worst tasting stuff on the planet and tell him its what most people drink. This way, you don't have to lie to him and you don't have the risk of him finding out and getting upset that you lied, and he gets "a taste of his own medicine."
Good luck!

Sorry, I don't know. But, I do know that that's not the best thing to do. I myself am a teen, and could not imagine why anyone would want to drink alcohol. There are problems with the past however many years of parenting. You are the parent: act like it.

He'll find it on his own soon enough. The law is on your side for your part as a parent. All you have to do is say to him "Wait until you are old enough to drink without getting me in trouble." If he keeps bugging you, take awy his allowance. If he still keeps bugging you, take away any special priviledges he may be enjoying like a TV in his room or use of a care. Yes, even if he bought these himself, they are yours if he is under 18. He needs to know that you completely disagree.

first of all how old is your son, you didn't say. Our granddaughter wanted to taste beer so we gave her a litle glass with dinner. That was all it took. She wanted to taste vodka and squirt so let her have a sip. It doesn't hurt to let them taste I don't think but if they say, wow, that's good put a lock on the the liquor cabinet. I think it is better they sample at home than to go out with their friends and over due and get sick or hurt and there's always someone out there that will buy it for them.

The best thing to do is to teach your son that he needs to wait until he is old enough to drink legally, and teach him the responsiblities associated with drinking. If you are really wanting to go through with it anyway. I don't know if it is still made but there used to be non-alcoholic beers available in certain grocery stores.

Hmm, I don't think that is the best way to go. I mean, how will he know that it is fake? What if your lesson doesn't work?

The best way to go is to let him read the blogs of people who are alcoholics or the blogs of teens who's parents struggle with drinking. Better yet, let him meet people face to face who are struggling or know somebody who is struggling with drinking. Let him know the consequences of drinking alcohol. Let him know that drinking may seem cool but it hurts you-and the others around you, who love and care for you.

Good luck!!

If he is not at the legal drinking age, he shouldn't be partaking of alcohol. If you aren't able to stand up to him and say no, then if you are having wine with your family meal you could give him say half a glass. That way you are controlling the intake of the alcohol and can monitor his actions/reactions afterwards.

I would tell him no, and if he pushes the issue or you catch him drinking alcohol give him a "real" whipping. We have too much of a problem with underage drinking as it is. Its 21 and not a day earlier.
