My boyfriend accidently spilled the beans that 6 months ago when we looked at rings he bought the setting right under my nose! I knew we were gonna get engaged soon, he always was saying he's just saving up for the ring etc, I didn't realize he was so sneakie! Anyways, tickled as I was when he asked if I wanted to see it I said yes. The ring size is exactly what I was sized at 6 months ago but now feels slips a little bit, not off but around. Resizing, again, wouldn't work it would be too small. But a long time ago I'd seen this little plastic thing you put on the bottom of the ring, where you can't see it, and it makes it less likely to slip around the finger. I've done searches everywhere....what is it called? I'd love to buy one so when he gets the diamond for the center I can wear it safely. At least sizing of the diamond won't be an issue!

layla983 you got it, RING GUARDS! Excellent! Thanks so much! I just couldn't think of the name, so typing in google was futile! I've found a few webpages with a couple different kinds so now I can order them! You are a life saver and exactly right, it was tight, it was loose etc. I think it just goes with how warm the hand is. My other rings a broader so they don't really slip much but get tight and then get looser. Thanks again!

Phantom, thanks also! I'll look around for those. I knew it wasn't a size issue just a daily finger swell or shrink etc. You both have been very helpful, whew! off to the shops!

I don't know the name of that, but I think a better fix would be to have a jeweler put balls on the inside of the ring...they can put one or two on, and they make the ring slightly smaller.

I dont know that I'd do anything. Your hands are usually a different size in winter than in summer. The average persons finger changes 1/2 a size every 6 months. So what fit 6 months ago will likely fit 6 months from now.

But most jewelry stores (I know the one I used to work at) will give you (or sell for less than $5) one that is either plastic or metal. The difference is that often the metal one will scrape your ring a little. Now your ring is going to get scraped anyway over its lifetime but some people are very picky about that. I think the plastic one is a little better, more comfortable on your finger--but the metal one blends in better.

And for the record, it's a ring guard. Sometimes called an adjustable guard. Most jewelry stores or jewelry repair shops will have it. Some Walmarts carry one called a Ring Snuggle or Snuggie (something like that). There is also something I've never tried called Ring Guard Solution that is like a gel that you put inside that peels off and kinda looks like a Gummy worm. I've never used it so I dont know that it works.

Hope this helps.

I know what you are talking about, but I don't know what they are called. I would suggest that you have the ring sized to the correct size. I can't imagine your hand getting cold or soapy and having the ring go flying. Most jewelry stores will size the ring and get it back to you that same day, especially if its a prized engagement ring. Ask at the jewelry store and I'm sure they could accomodate you. Best wishes.

Your jeweler should be able to help you This this. There is also a metal one with clasps to put inside of the ring and can easily be adjusted to size without actually cutting the ring. It Can be adjusted as needed, bigger or smaller as needed and since it is on the inside of the ring it is not visible. Just ask your jeweler and he will know what is best.

I have the same problem...long skinny fingers, which makes it so that the size theat fits over your knuckle is bigger than the size of where the ring sits.

If it makes you feel any better, when you get the diamond mounted it will probably spin less.

I think some places call those things you're talking about gaurds. But just to let you know that you aren't alone, my ring has done the same thing. I worried it was too tight at first, now it just spins around alot but it's not too large.

Take your ring back to the jeweler (where he bought it). They will help you with it - I can't remember what it's called - I do know when I priced one for a ring that does the same as yours (spins around), they were about $250.00!!! Not cheap, but probably worth it.
