I fixed a can of green beans for dinner...my fiance said they tasted gross...but I didnt notice anything strange except they tasted salty and buttery...I used lots of butter...well that started me thinking and I checked out the can ...there were no dents or rust in the can and I thought maybe it had an off smell or taste....well I am paranoid now and worried about botulism....what do u think???

You've already said the can wasn't dented or rusted, which is a good start. Was the lid or bottom of the can bulging? How about the liquid -- slimy or foul-smelling?

If not, you're probably OK. But if you start to have any symptoms of food poisoning,* get to the doctor right away.

You only worry about botulism is the can is bulging.

Dented cans mean nothing more than a careless stock boy.

If you did not notice a very bad smell (which would have been apparent when you opened the can), the beans were fine.

He just doesn't like the way you cooked them. Most men don't like vegetables.

I'd check the butter you used.
But more than likely, if it was fine to you, then maybe it was just a little off to your fiance. No big deal. If it was bad, really bad, you'd BOTH know quick.

If the can was undamaged you should be in the clear given it was less than two years old. If it exhaled when you punctuerd it that is bad it means the seal was broken, but if it inhaled the vacuum within the can was intact.

Check the "Best By" date. If it's passed, then, well, it's bad.

I really doubt they were bad... Have you checked your butter?
