I scanned a document to Word and gave it a pdf. so I could write to and edit the text. When I viewed the doc in Word, and attempted to modify, edit, or write to it, a "format picture" dialog box appeared. I could not edit my doc because it was seen as a picture by Word. How can I edit and modify my doc.? I used an on-line converter (pdf to doc), but that failed as well. Thankyou

You need an OCR (Optical Charater Recognition). The scan is currently recognized as an image and not text.

Adobe Acrobat also does OCR... and some of the software that comes with scanners.

the problem is when you scanned it.. it was scanned as a picture. What you needed was OCR software... which would scan the document and convert it to text. Most OCR software will still be able to read the scanned file and convert it still... or just rescan using OCR software
Here is a freeware version:

Well, it is possible for you to copy text from pdf to word and edit the pdf in word document, but you need to buy an expensive pdf editor like adobe acrobat. So, I always use another way, convert pdf to editable word format, then edit text content in word document. And you can try this software, simpo pdf to word, it can accurately convert pdf files to word format.
